Fluid Level Check


On A540E transaxles, use ATF DEXRON II fluid and on A540H units, use ATF Type T-IV (TSB - T003-99 5/21/99), After 1990.

1. Operate vehicle, allow transaxle fluid temperature to reach 158-176 °F.
2. Position vehicle on level surface, apply parking brake.
3. Allow engine to idle, depress brake pedal, then move shift lever through all positions.
4. Remove transaxle dipstick, wipe clean, then replace.
5. Remove again, then check fluid level in HOT range.
6. On A540E units, dry fill capacity is 6.2 quarts.
7. On A540H units, dry fill capacity is 7.4 quarts.
