To check belt tension, use the tension gauge built onto the auto tensioner, Fig. 6. A new belt should be within the B range on the auto tensioner scale. A used belt should be within the A range on the auto tensioner scale. If the used belt is not within the A range, replace the belt with a new one. A new belt is a belt that has not been on a running engine longer than five minutes.
