Dashboard / Instrument Panel: Service and Repair
Refer to Fig. 19, for assistance.Fig. 19 Exploded View Of Instrument Panel.:
1. Disconnect battery ground cable
2. Remove driver side air bag assembly, steering wheel, combination switch and turn signal bracket as outlined in the "Electrical" section.
3. Apply protection tape to roof pillars.
4. Remove hood and fuel filler release levers. Then remove lower finish and instrument panels.
5. Remove No. 2 heater to register duct.
6. Loosen DLC 3 and fuse block.
7. Remove ashtray, ashtray receptacle and No. 2 instrument cluster center finish panel and clock.
8. Remove instrument cluster finish panel and combination meter.
9. Remove instrument cluster. Then remove heater control unit and radio. Disconnect necessary connectors.
10. Remove front console box, then instrument panel speaker. Disconnect connectors.
11. Remove glove compartment door. Then remove engine ECU.
12. Disconnect passenger air bag electrical connector and remove air bag module.
13. Remove nine bolts, five screws and instrument panel.
14. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Torque steering column attaching bolts to 19 ft. lbs.
b. Torque passenger air bag assembly bolts to 15 ft. lbs.
c. Torque steering wheel set nut to 25 ft. lbs.
d. Torque steering wheel pad to 80 inch lbs.
