Front Differential

Front Differential Rear Oil Seal Components:

REPLACEMENT
1. Drain differential oil.
2. Remove front propeller shaft.








3. Remove companion flange.
a. Using a chisel and hammer, loosen the staked part of the nut.
b. Using SST 09330-00021 to hold the flange, remove the nut and plate washer.
c. Using SST 09950 - 30010 (09951-0301 0, 09953-03010, 09954-03010, 09955-03030, 0995-03020), remove the companion flange.





4. Remove oil seal and oil slinger.
a. Using SST 09308 - 10010, remove the oil seal.
b. Remove the oil slinger.





5. Remove rear bearing. Using SST 09556-22010, remove the rear bearing from the drive pinion.





6. Remove rear bearing outer race. Using SST 09308-00010, remove the bearing outer race.

NOTICE:Do not scratch the taper surface of the outer race.





7. Remove oil storage ring. Using a screwdriver, bend the oil storage ring and drive it out.
8. Remove bearing spacer.
9. Install bearing spacer.





10. Install oil storage ring. Using SST 09316-60011 (09316-00011, 09316-00021), install a new oil storage ring.

11. Install rear bearing.
a. Using SST 09316-60011 (09316-00011, 09316-00021), install the bearing outer race.
b. Install the rear bearing.

12. Install oil slinger and oil seal.
a. Install the oil slinger.





b. Using SST09214 - 76011, install a new oil seal, as shown.

Oil seal drive in depth: 1.0 mm (0.039 inch).

c. Coat the lip of the oil seal with MP grease.





13. Install companion flange.
a. Using SST 09950-30010 (09951-03010, 09953-03010, 09954-03010, 09955-3030, 0995-03020), install the companion flange on the drive pinion.
b. Place the plate washer on the companion flange.





c. Apply light coat of gear oil on threads of a new companion flange nut.
d. Using SST 0933-00021, to hold the flange, torque the nut.

Torque: 196 Nm (145 ft. lbs.)

14. Adjust drive pinion preload.
15. Stake drive pinion nut.
16. Install front propeller shaft.





17. Fill differential with gear oil.

Torque: 49 Nm (39 ft. lbs.)

Oil type: Hypoid gear oil API GL-5

Recommended oil viscosity:
Above 18° C (0° F): SAE 90
Below 18° C (0° F): SAE 80W-90 or 80W

Capacity:
Without Differential lock: 2.80 liters (2.9 US quarts)
With Differential lock: 2.65 liters (2.8 US quarts)
