DIFFERENTIAL OIL SEAL

Components:

REMOVAL
1. REMOVE FRONT WHEELS

HINT: When replacing the front differential oil seal (LH) or (RH), perform step 1 to 7 or 8 to 13 respectively.

2. REMOVE ENGINE UNDER COVER ASSEMBLY
a. w/ Engine under cover assembly: Remove the engine under cover assembly.
3. REMOVE ENGINE UNDER COVER NO.1
4. REMOVE ENGINE UNDER COVER NO.2
a. w/ Engine under cover No.2: Remove the engine under cover No.2.
5. DRAIN AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE FLUID
a. Remove the drain plug, gasket and drain ATF.
b. Install a new gasket and the drain plug.
Torque: 49 Nm (500 kgf-cm, 36 ft. lbs.)
6. REMOVE FRONT DRIVE SHAFT ASSEMBLY LH
SST 09520-01010, 09520-24010 (09520-32040)

7. REMOVE DIFFERENTIAL SIDE BEARING RETAINER OIL SEAL
a. Using SST, pull out the oil seal.
SST 09308-00010
8. REMOVE ENGINE ASSEMBLY WITH TRANSAXLE
9. REMOVE FRONT DRIVE SHAFT ASSEMBLY RH (for 4WD)
10. REMOVE TRANSFER STIFFENER PLATE RH
11. REMOVE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION W/ TRANSFER
12. REMOVE TRANSFER ASSEMBLY

13. REMOVE TRANSAXLE HOUSING OIL SEAL
a. Using a screwdriver with vinyl tape wrapped around its tip, remove the oil seal.

NOTICE: Be careful not to damage the housing.

INSTALLATION

1. INSTALL DIFFERENTIAL SIDE BEARING RETAINER OIL SEAL
a. Using SST and a hammer, install a new oil seal.
SST 09223-15020, 09950-70010 (09951-07200)
Oil seal installation depth: -0.5 to 0.5 mm (-0.020 to 0.020 inch)
b. Coat the lip of the oil seal with MP grease.
2. INSTALL FRONT DRIVE SHAFT ASSEMBLY LH
3. INSTALL FRONT WHEELS
Torque: 103 Nm (1,050 kgf-cm, 76 ft. lbs.)
4. ADD AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE FLUID
5. INSPECT AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE FLUID
6. INSTALL ENGINE UNDER COVER NO.2
a. w/ Engine under cover No.2: Install the engine under cover No.2.
7. INSTALL ENGINE UNDER COVER NO.1
8. INSTALL ENGINE UNDERCOVER ASSEMBLY
a. w/ Engine under cover assembly: Install the engine under cover assembly
9. CHECK ABS SPEED SENSOR SIGNAL
10. PERFORM INITIALIZATION

HINT: Some systems need initialization when disconnecting the cable from the negative battery terminal.

11. INSTALL TRANSAXLE HOUSING OIL SEAL
a. Using SST and a hammer, install a new oil seal.
SST 09649-17010, 09950-70010 (09951-07200)
Oil seal installation depth: 5.5 to 6.5 mm (0.217 to 0.256 inch)
b. Coat the lip of the oil seal with MP grease.
12. INSTALL TRANSFER ASSEMBLY
13. INSTALL AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION W/ TRANSFER
14. INSTALL FRONT DRIVE SHAFT ASSEMBLY RH (for 4WD)
15. INSTALL TRANSFER STIFFENER PLATE RH
16. INSTALL ENGINE ASSEMBLY WITH TRANSAXLE
