INSTRUMENT PANEL SAFETY PAD

Instrument Panel Safety Pad:

REMOVAL

1. TABLE OF BOLT, SCREW AND NUT

HINT: All bolts, screws and nuts relevant to installing and removing the instrument panel are shown along with their alphabet code in the below.

2. SET RADIO RECEIVER ASSEMBLY TO SHIPMENT MODE
a. Take out all discs and tape.

NOTICE: If the discs or tape cannot be taken out, do not attempt to take them out forcibly. Send the unit to a repair shop.

b. Turn the engine switch off.

c. While simultaneously pressing the "SEEK UP" and "DISC" switches, turn the engine switch on (ACC).

HINT: The CD loading door indicator light blinks during mode setting and it remains lit after the setting is completed.

d. Turn the engine switch off.

3. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL

CAUTION: Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to prevent airbag and seat belt pretensioner activation.

4. REMOVE FRONT DOOR SCUFF PLATE RH
5. REMOVE FRONT DOOR SCUFF PLATE LH
6. REMOVE FRONT DOOR OPENING TRIM COVER RH
7. REMOVE FRONT DOOR OPENING TRIM COVER LH
8. REMOVE STEERING WHEEL NO. 2 COVER LOWER
9. REMOVE STEERING WHEEL NO. 3 COVER LOWER
10. REMOVE STEERING PAD
11. REMOVE STEERING WHEEL ASSEMBLY
a. Remove the steering wheel assembly.
12. REMOVE STEERING COLUMN COVER LOWER
a. Remove the steering column cover lower.
13. REMOVE STEERING COLUMN COVER UPPER
a. Remove the steering column cover upper.
14. REMOVE SPIRAL CABLE WITH STEERING SENSOR
15. REMOVE WINDSHIELD WIPER SWITCH ASSEMBLY
16. REMOVE HEADLIGHT DIMMER SWITCH ASSEMBLY

17. REMOVE FRONT CONSOLE UPPER PANEL GARNISH
a. Using a clip remover, detach the claws and remove the garnish.

HINT: Tape the clip remover tip before use.

18. REMOVE CONSOLE UPPER PANEL ASSEMBLY

a. Twist the shift lever knob in the direction indicated by the arrow and remove it.

b. Using a screwdriver, detach the 9 clips.

HINT: Tape the screwdriver tip before use.

c. Remove the ash receptacle and then disconnect the connector.

19. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PANEL END RH
a. Remove the screw.
b. Using a screwdriver, detach the 3 clips and 3 claws.

HINT: Tape the screwdriver tip before use.

c. Remove the finish panel end.

20. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PANEL END LH
a. Remove the screw.
b. Using a screwdriver, detach the 4 clips and 3 claws.

HINT: Tape the screwdriver tip before use.

c. Remove the finish panel end.

21. REMOVE CONSOLE BOX PLATE
a. Using a screwdriver, detach the 4 clips.

HINT: Tape the screwdriver tip before use.

b. Remove the console box plate and then disconnect the connector.

22. REMOVE CONSOLE BOX REGISTER ASSEMBLY
a. Using a screwdriver, detach the 4 clips and remove the register.

HINT: Tape the screwdriver tip before use.

23. REMOVE CONSOLE BOX
a. Remove the 4 bolts and 2 screws.
b. Remove the console box and then disconnect the connector.

24. REMOVE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FINISH PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY
a. Using a screwdriver, detach the 5 clips.

HINT: Tape the screwdriver tip before use.

b. Remove the cluster finish panel and then disconnect the connector.

25. REMOVE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY
a. Remove the 4 screws.
b. Disconnect the connector and remove the combination meter.

26. REMOVE INSTRUMENT SIDE PANEL RH
a. Using a screwdriver, detach the 2 claws and 4 clips, and remove the side panel.

HINT: Tape the screwdriver tip before use.

27. REMOVE INSTRUMENT SIDE PANEL LH
a. Using a screwdriver, detach the 2 claws and 4 clips, and remove the side panel.

HINT: Tape the screwdriver tip before use.

28. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL NO. 1 UNDER COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY
a. Remove the 2 screws.
b. Detach the 3 claws.
c. Remove the under cover and then disconnect the connector.

29. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL NO. 1 SAFETY PAD SUB-ASSEMBLY
a. Using a screwdriver, detach the 8 clips and claw.

HINT: Tape the screwdriver tip before use.

b. Remove the hood lock control cable from the safety pad.
c. Remove the safety pad.

30. REMOVE DRIVER SIDE KNEE AIRBAG ASSEMBLY

31. REMOVE INTEGRATION CONTROL AND PANEL ASSEMBLY
a. Remove the 2 screws.
b. Using a screwdriver, detach the 2 claws.

HINT: Tape the screwdriver tip before use.

c. Remove the control panel and then disconnect the connector.

32. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL NO. 2 UNDER COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY
a. Using a screwdriver, detach the 4 clips.

HINT: Tape the screwdriver tip before use.

b. Disconnect the connector and clamp, and remove the under cover.

33. REMOVE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE KNEE AIRBAG ASSEMBLY

34. REMOVE GLOVE COMPARTMENT DOOR SUB-ASSEMBLY
a. Remove the 4 screws.
b. Detach the 2 clips and claw.
c. Disconnect the connector and clamp.
d. Remove the glove compartment door.

35. REMOVE FRONT PILLAR GARNISH RH
36. REMOVE FRONT PILLAR GARNISH LH
37. REMOVE MULTI-DISPLAY WITH RADIO RECEIVER ASSEMBLY

38. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL SAFETY PAD SUB-ASSEMBLY
a. w/ Navigation system:
Remove the navigation ECU.
1. Remove the 3 bolts and navigation ECU.
2. Disconnect the connectors.

b. Remove the 4 nuts and center junction block RH and LH.
c. Remove the 4 bolts, nut and 2 clips.
d. Remove the 2 bolts from the passenger airbag.
e. Disconnect the connectors and clamps.
f. Detach the 5 clips and remove the safety pad.

INSTALLATION

HINT: A bolt without a torque specification is shown in the standard bolt chart.

1. INSTALL INSTRUMENT PANEL SAFETY PAD SUB-ASSEMBLY
a. Attach the 5 clips to install the safety pad.
b. Connect the connectors and clamps.
c. Install the 2 bolts to the passenger airbag.

Torque: 20 N.m (204 kgf.cm, 15 ft.lbf)

d. Install the 4 bolts, nut and 2 clips.
e. Install the center junction block RH and LH with the 4 nuts.

f. w/ Navigation system:
Install the navigation ECU.
1. Connect the connector.
2. Install the ECU with the 3 bolts.

2. INSTALL MULTI-DISPLAY WITH RADIO RECEIVER ASSEMBLY
3. INSTALL FRONT PILLAR GARNISH LH
4. INSTALL FRONT PILLAR GARNISH RH

5. INSTALL GLOVE COMPARTMENT DOOR SUB-ASSEMBLY
a. Attach the 2 clips and claw to install the glove compartment door.
b. Connect the connector and clamp.
c. Install the 4 screws.

6. INSTALL FRONT PASSENGER SIDE KNEE AIRBAG ASSEMBLY

7. INSTALL INSTRUMENT PANEL NO. 2 UNDER COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY
a. Connect the connector and clamp.
b. Attach the 4 clips to install the under cover.

8. INSTALL INTEGRATION CONTROL AND PANEL ASSEMBLY
a. Connect the connector.
b. Attach the 2 claws to install the control panel.
c. Install the 2 screws.

9. INSTALL DRIVER SIDE KNEE AIRBAG ASSEMBLY

10. INSTALL INSTRUMENT PANEL NO. 1 SAFETY PAD SUB-ASSEMBLY
a. Install the hood lock control cable to the safety pad.
b. Attach the 8 clips and claw to install the safety pad.

11. INSTALL INSTRUMENT PANEL NO. 1 UNDER COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY
a. Connect the connectors.
b. Attach the 3 claws to install the under cover.
c. Install the 2 screws.

12. INSTALL INSTRUMENT SIDE PANEL LH
a. Attach the 2 claws and 4 clips to install the side panel.

13. INSTALL INSTRUMENT SIDE PANEL RH
a. Attach the 2 claws and 4 clips to install the side panel.

14. INSTALL COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY
a. Connect the connector.
b. Install the combination meter with the 4 screws.

15. INSTALL INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FINISH PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY
a. Connect the connector.
b. Attach the 5 clips to install the cluster finish panel.

16. INSTALL CONSOLE BOX
a. Connect the connector.
b. Install the console box with the 4 bolts and 2 screws.

17. INSTALL CONSOLE BOX REGISTER ASSEMBLY
a. Attach the 4 clips to install the register.

18. INSTALL CONSOLE BOX PLATE
a. Connect the connector.
b. Attach the 4 clips to install the console box.

19. INSTALL INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PANEL END LH
a. Attach the 4 clips and 3 claws to install the finish panel end.
b. Install the screw.

20. INSTALL INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PANEL END RH
a. Attach the 3 clips and 3 claws to install the finish panel end.
b. Install the screw.

21. INSTALL CONSOLE UPPER PANEL ASSEMBLY

a. Connect the connector.
b. Attach the 9 clips to install the ash receptacle.

c. Install the shift lever knob and twist it in the direction indicated by the arrow.

22. INSTALL FRONT CONSOLE UPPER PANEL GARNISH
a. Attach the claws to install the garnish.

23. INSTALL HEADLIGHT DIMMER SWITCH ASSEMBLY
24. INSTALL WINDSHIELD WIPER SWITCH ASSEMBLY
25. INSTALL SPIRAL CABLE WITH STEERING SENSOR
26. INSTALL STEERING COLUMN COVER UPPER
a. Install the steering column cover upper.
27. INSTALL STEERING COLUMN COVER LOWER
a. Install the steering column cover lower.
28. INSTALL STEERING WHEEL ASSEMBLY
a. Install the steering wheel assembly.
29. INSTALL STEERING PAD
30. INSTALL STEERING WHEEL NO. 3 COVER LOWER
31. INSTALL STEERING WHEEL NO. 2 COVER LOWER
32. INSTALL FRONT DOOR OPENING TRIM COVER LH
33. INSTALL FRONT DOOR OPENING TRIM COVER RH
34. INSTALL FRONT DOOR SCUFF PLATE LH
35. INSTALL FRONT DOOR SCUFF PLATE RH
36. CONNECT CABLE TO NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL
37. PERFORM INITIALIZATION

NOTICE: Certain systems need to be initialized after disconnecting and reconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.

a. Perform initialization

38. CHECK SRS WARNING LIGHT
a. Check the SRS warning light.
