Ignition Coil: Testing and Inspection

ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION

1. INSPECT IGNITION COIL ASSEMBLY AND SPARK TEST

a. Confirm DTCs.

NOTE: If any DTCs are indicated, carry out troubleshooting in accordance with the procedures for those DTCs.

b. Check that a spark occurs.

1. Remove the V-bank cover.
2. Remove the ignition coils.
3. Using a 16 mm (0.63 in.) plug wrench, remove the spark plugs.
4. Install the spark plugs to each ignition coil, and connect the ignition coil connectors.
5. Disconnect the 8 injector connectors.
6. Ground the spark plugs.
7. Check if a spark occurs while the engine is being cranked.

NOTE:
- Be sure to ground the spark plugs when checking.
- Replace the ignition coil if it is subjected to an impact.
- Do not crank the engine for more than 2 seconds.

c. Using a 16 mm (0.63 in.) plug wrench, install the spark plugs.

Torque: 20 N.m (204 kgf.cm, 15 ft.lbf)

d. Install the ignition coils.

Torque: 7.5 N.m (80 kgf.cm, 66 in.lbf)

e. Install the V-bank cover.

Torque: 7.5 N.m (80 kgf.cm, 66 in.lbf)
