ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION
1. INSPECT THROTTLE BODY
(a) Check for an operating sound.
(1) Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
(2) When turning the accelerator pedal position sensor lever, listen to a running sound of the motor. Also, check that there is no friction sound.
If operation is not as specified, check the throttle control motor Inspection, wiring and ECM.
(b) Inspect the throttle position sensor.
(1) Connect Techstream to the DLC3.
(2) Turn the ignition switch ON (IG).
(3) Turn the tester on.
(4) Enter the following menus:
Select: Powertrain /Engine and ECT / Data List / Throttle position.
(5) Depress the accelerator pedal. When the throttle valve is fully open, check that the Throttle position value is within the specification.
Standard throttle valve opening percentage:
60% or more
If the result is not as specified, check the accelerator pedal position sensor Testing and Inspection, wiring and ECM.
If the Techstream is not available, measure the voltage between the terminals (VTA1 - E2, VTA2 - E2) of the ECM connector Pinout Values and Diagnostic Parameters.
(c) Inspect the air assist system.
(1) Start the engine and check that the MIL does not light up.
(2) Warm up the engine to the normal operating temperature.
(3) Switch the A/C compressor from ON to OFF, and check the idle speed.
Idle speed (Transmission in neutral):
650 to 750 rpm
NOTE: Perform this inspection while no electrical load is applied.
(d) Perform the driving test.
