Engine Coolant Temperature Receiver Gauge Malfunction

METER: METER / GAUGE SYSTEM: Engine Coolant Temperature Receiver Gauge Malfunction

Engine Coolant Temperature Receiver Gauge Malfunction

DESCRIPTION

- In this circuit, the meter CPU receives engine coolant temperature signals from the ECM using the CAN lines.
- The meter CPU displays engine coolant temperature that is calculated based on the data received from the ECM.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE
HINT:
If there is an open or short in the engine coolant temperature sensor circuit, the ECM will store the DTCs. Perform troubleshooting of the "SFI System" SFI System(for 2GR-FSE), SFI System (for 4GR-FSE)).

PROCEDURE

1. CHECK CAN COMMUNICATION SYSTEM
(a) Check if CAN communication DTC is output Diagnosis System.

Result

B -- REPAIR CIRCUITS INDICATED BY OUTPUT DTCS
A -- Continue to next step.
2. CHECK MULTIPLEX COMMUNICATION SYSTEM
(a) Check if MULTIPLEX communication DTC is output Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes.

Result

B -- REPAIR CIRCUITS INDICATED BY OUTPUT DTCS
B -- Continue to next step.
3. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING TECHSTREAM (WATER TEMPERATURE METER OPERATION)
(a) Connect Techstream to the DLC3.
(b) Turn the engine switch on (IG).
(c) Turn the tester ON.
(d) Enter the following menus: Body Electrical / Combination Meter / Active Test.
(e) Check the operation by referring to the values in the table below.

Combination Meter:

OK:
Needle indication is normal.
NG -- REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY
OK -- Continue to next step.
4. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (COOLANT TEMP)
(a) Connect Techstream to the DLC3.
(b) Turn the engine switch on (IG).
(c) Turn the tester ON.
(d) Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Data List.
(e) Check the values by referring to the values in the table below.

Engine and ECT:

OK:
Engine coolant temperature value displayed on the tester is almost the same as actual engine coolant temperature.
NG -- GO TO SFI SYSTEM
OK -- Continue to next step.
5. REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY
OK:
The operation of the combination meter assembly returns to normal.
NG -- REPLACE ECM
OK -- END
