B2610
STEERING COLUMN: POWER TILT AND POWER TELESCOPIC STEERING COLUMN SYSTEM: B2610: Tilt Position Sensor or Tilt Motor Circuit Malfunction
B2610 - Tilt Position Sensor or Tilt Motor Circuit Malfunction
DESCRIPTION
The tilt motor is operated by the power source voltage supplied from the multiplex tilt and telescopic ECU and makes the steering column tilt up and down. The tilt position sensor (Hall IC) in the tilt motor detects the tilt angle of the steering column and outputs a signal to the CPU based on that tilt.
HINT
Limit positions can be confirmed on the screen of the Techstream.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE
PROCEDURE
1. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING TECHSTREAM (TILT OPERATION)
(a) Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
(b) Turn the power switch ON (IG).
(c) Turn the Techstream on.
(d) Check that the steering wheel tilts up (down). Enter the following menus: Chassis / Tilt&Telescopic / Active Test.
Tilt&Telescopic
OK:
Steering wheel moves up (down).
OK -- CHECK WIRE HARNESS (MULTIPLEX TILT AND TELESCOPIC ECU - TILT POSITION SENSOR)
NG -- Continue to next step.
2. CHECK WIRE HARNESS (MULTIPLEX TILT AND TELESCOPIC ECU - TILT MOTOR)
(a) Disconnect the K27 connector from the multiplex tilt and telescopic ECU.
(b) Disconnect the K18 connector from the tilt motor.
(c) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard resistance:
NG -- REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
OK -- Continue to next step.
3. INSPECT TILT MOTOR
(a) Connect the positive battery terminal to terminal 1 (TIM+) and the negative battery terminal to terminal 2 (TIM-) of the tilt motor connector. Then confirm that the steering wheel tilts up.
OK:
Steering wheel moves up.
(b) Connect the negative battery terminal to terminal 1 (TIM+) and the positive battery terminal to terminal 2 (TIM-) of the tilt motor connector. Then confirm that the steering wheel tilts down.
OK:
Steering wheel moves down.
NOTICE:
If replacing the steering column assembly, perform VGRS actuator angle initialization Initialization and VGRS actuator angle neutral calibration Calibration after wheel alignment adjustment.
NG -- REPLACE STEERING COLUMN ASSEMBLY
OK -- REPLACE MULTIPLEX TILT AND TELESCOPIC ECU
4. CHECK WIRE HARNESS (MULTIPLEX TILT AND TELESCOPIC ECU - TILT POSITION SENSOR)
5. CHECK WIRE HARNESS (MULTIPLEX TILT AND TELESCOPIC ECU - BODY GROUND)
(a) Disconnect the K27 connector from the multiplex tilt and telescopic ECU.
(b) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard resistance:
NG -- REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
OK -- Continue to next step.
6. CHECK MULTIPLEX TILT AND TELESCOPIC ECU (VCI, TIS VOLTAGE)
(a) Reconnect the K27 connector to the multiplex tilt and telescopic ECU.
(b) Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard voltage:
NG -- REPLACE MULTIPLEX TILT AND TELESCOPIC ECU
OK -- Continue to next step.
7. CHECK TILT POSITION SENSOR (TIS VOLTAGE)
(a) Reconnect the K18 connector to the tilt motor.
(b) Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard voltage:
NOTICE:
If replacing the steering column assembly, perform VGRS actuator angle initialization Initialization and VGRS actuator angle neutral calibration Calibration after wheel alignment adjustment.
NG -- REPLACE STEERING COLUMN ASSEMBLY
OK -- REPLACE MULTIPLEX TILT AND TELESCOPIC ECU
