STEERING COLUMN: VARIABLE GEAR RATIO STEERING SYSTEM: C15C7/78,C15C8/79: DC Motor Power Source Voltage Malfunction


DESCRIPTION

The steering control ECU monitors PIG (motor power source voltage) and detects a malfunction in the power supply relay (located inside the steering control ECU).

If the steering control ECU detects a malfunction, it will turn on the master warning light, store these DTCs, and stop VGRS operation.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE

HINT
The fault may be intermittent. Check harnesses and connectors thoroughly and retest.

PROCEDURE

1. CHECK WIRE HARNESS (STEERING CONTROL ECU - BODY GROUND)

(a) Turn the power switch OFF.





(b) Disconnect the negative (-) terminal cable from the battery.

(c) Disconnect the A40 steering control ECU connector.

(d) Measure the resistance of the wire harness side connector.

Standard resistance:





NG -- REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
OK -- Continue to next step.

2. CHECK STEERING CONTROL ECU (POWER SOURCE CIRCUIT)

(a) Connect the negative (-) terminal cable to the battery.

(b) Record and clear the DTCs Variable Gear Ratio Steering System.





(c) Start the engine.

(d) Measure the voltage of the steering control ECU.

Standard voltage:





C -- CHECK OR REPAIR CHARGING SYSTEM

B -- CHECK OR REPAIR HARNESS AND FUSE
A -- Continue to next step.

3. CHECK DTC

(a) Turn the power switch OFF.

(b) Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.

(c) Turn the power switch ON (IG) and turn the Techstream on.

(d) Check for DTCs Variable Gear Ratio Steering System.

NG -- REPLACE STEERING CONTROL ECU
