Technician Safety Information
AUDIO / VIDEO: HARD DISK DRIVE: PRECAUTION
1. PRECAUTION FOR DISCONNECTING CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL
NOTICE:
After the engine switch is turned off, the display and navigation module display (HDD navigation system) records various types of memory and settings. As a result, after turning the engine switch off, be sure to wait for the time specified in the following table before disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.
Waiting Time before Disconnecting Cable from Negative (-) Battery Terminal
2. PRECAUTIONS FOR DISPLAY AND NAVIGATION MODULE DISPLAY
(a) An HDD is built into the display and navigation module display to store map data, etc. which will be used for the navigation system. Therefore, care must be taken with the following points when handling it:

(1) Do not apply any vibration or shock to the display and navigation module display.
NOTICE:
* Do not drop or subject the display and navigation module display to severe impacts.
* Do not use the display and navigation module display if it has been dropped or subjected to a severe impact.
(2) Do not remove the display and navigation module display if there is a risk that condensation may occur.
NOTICE:
If the temperature of the display and navigation module display changes rapidly, condensation may occur inside the unit. This may cause a malfunction of the HDD. Therefore, when the display and navigation module display is removed from the instrument panel, it needs to be kept inside the vehicle or in an environment with an equivalent temperature and humidity.
(3) Take measures to prevent static electricity.
NOTICE:
Touching the terminals of a connector can cause static electricity to be transmitted to the internal circuits. This may cause a malfunction of the HDD.
(4) Keep the display and navigation module display away from magnets or magnetized items.
NOTICE:
Keep the display and navigation module display away from speakers, motors, magnetized tools and other magnetic items.
3. PRECAUTIONS FOR HARD DISC (HDD)
(a) The map data for the navigation system is stored on the Hard Disc Drive (HDD). Make sure to follow the following instructions when replacing the HDD:
NOTICE:
Data downloaded by the customer may be stored on the HDD. This data will be lost when the HDD is replaced. Make sure to warn the customer that their data will be lost and obtain their consent prior to replacing the HDD.
(1) The HDD must only be replaced with a new one. Do not attempt to install a used HDD from another vehicle.
NOTICE:
The display and navigation module display can recognize only a new HDD.
(2) Do not touch the HDD cover.
NOTICE:
When removing or installing the HDD, only hold it by the areas shown in the illustration.

(3) Do not apply any vibration or shock to the HDD.
NOTICE:
* Do not drop or allow anything to strike the HDD.
* Never use an HDD that has been dropped or struck.
(4) Do not remove the HDD if there is a risk that condensation may occur.
NOTICE:
If the temperature of the HDD changes rapidly, condensation may occur inside the unit. This may cause a malfunction of the HDD. Therefore, when the HDD is remove from the display and navigation module display, it needs to be kept in an environment with an equivalent temperature and humidity.
(5) Take measures to prevent static electricity.
NOTICE:
Touching the terminals of a connector can cause static electricity to be transmitted to the internal circuits. This may cause a malfunction of the HDD.
(6) Keep the HDD away from magnets or magnetized items.
NOTICE:
Keep the HDD away from speakers, motors, magnetized tools and other magnetic items.
(7) Inspection after HDD replacement.
NOTICE:
Make sure to perform Check Hard Disc in Operation Check to confirm that there are no HDD abnormalities after removal or installation Operation Check.
4. PRECAUTIONS DURING REPLACEMENT
NOTICE:
When replacing electronic parts, if there is a possibility that your body may contact a circuit board, etc., use the recommended tools and observe all precautions to prevent damage to the system by electrostatic discharge (ESD).
(a) Procedures where static electricity countermeasures are necessary
(1) Hard disc replacement.
(2) Internal wiring connection/disconnection, inspection, and replacement.
(b) Precautions during procedures
(1) Before performing any procedures, touch an unpainted metal part or ground bolt of the vehicle to eliminate any static electricity.
(2) To prevent damage to electrical equipment, disconnect the battery power supply before installing and removing electrical equipment.
(3) Never touch a circuit board's electronic parts, or an integrated circuit's pins.
(4) When performing procedures, do not allow clothing to come near or contact parts.
