APPLICABILITY:

INTRODUCTION:
Some IS and GS series vehicles may exhibit an intermittent no crank condition. An updated negative cable bolt is available to address this condition. Follow the procedure in this bulletin to replace the negative cable bolt.

This TSB applies to vehicles produced BEFORE the Production Change Effective VINs shown.







REQUIRED TOOLS & EQUIPMENT:

REPAIR PROCEDURE:
1. Check battery voltage.








A. Measure the battery voltage between the negative (-) and positive (+) terminals of the battery.
Standard Voltage: 12.5 to 12.9 V at 68°F (20°C)

B. If battery voltage is not within specification, charge the battery.
C. Temporarily run a redundant jumper cable with equivalent gauge from the negative battery terminal to a suitable ground on the vehicle.
D. If the vehicle cranks normally and the engine starts, proceed with this TSIB.
E. If condition does NOT change, STOP! This TSB does NOT apply.

2. Replace negative (-) cable bolt.
A. Refer to the appropriate Repair Manual to REMOVE the Power Steering ECU to gain access to the bolt.

CAUTION
Wait at LEAST 90 seconds after disconnecting the battery cables to prevent possible airbag deployment.

B. Remove the battery tray that is beneath the Power Steering ECU and remove the bolt securing the negative cable to the vehicle.
C. Run a M6 x 1.0 tap several times to remove paint on the threads of the weld nut. Clean all dirt and debris around the ground point thoroughly.
D. Install the negative cable and new bolt (P/N 90119-06995).
Torque: 9-14 N-m (92-143 kgf-cm, 80-124 in-lbf)

E. Refer to the appropriate Repair Manual to install the Power Steering ECU.

3. Confirm vehicle starts.
4. Perform initialization on the affected systems.
Refer to the appropriate bulletins on ETAS for initialization procedures.
