B1660/43 - Passenger Airbag ON/OFF Indicator Circuit Malfunction

DESCRIPTION

The passenger airbag ON/OFF indicator circuit consists of the center airbag sensor assembly and the passenger airbag ON/OFF indicator.

The passenger airbag ON/OFF indicator indicates the operation condition of the front passenger airbag assembly, front passenger side knee airbag assembly, front seat side airbag assembly RH and front seat outer belt assembly RH.

DTC B1660/43 is stored when a malfunction is detected in the passenger airbag ON/OFF indicator circuit.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE

PROCEDURE

1. CHECK PASSENGER AIRBAG ON/OFF INDICATOR CONDITION

(a) Turn the engine switch on (IG).

(b) Check the passenger airbag ON/OFF indicator operation.

HINT
Refer to the normal condition of the passenger airbag ON/OFF indicator Diagnosis System.

B -- CHECK CONNECTION OF CONNECTORS
A -- Continue to next step.

2. CHECK CONNECTION OF CONNECTORS

(a) Turn the engine switch off.

(b) Disconnect the negative (-) terminal cable from the battery, and wait for at least 90 seconds.

(c) with Navigation system:

Check that the connectors are properly connected to the center airbag sensor assembly and the multi-display assembly.

OK:

The connectors are properly connected.

(d) without Navigation system:

Check that the connectors are properly connected to the center airbag sensor assembly and the air conditioner panel sub-assembly.

OK:

The connectors are properly connected.

NG -- CONNECT CONNECTORS PROPERLY
OK -- Continue to next step.

3. CHECK CONNECTORS

(a) with Navigation system:

(1) Disconnect the connectors from the center airbag sensor assembly and the multi-display assembly.

(2) Check that the connectors (on the center airbag sensor assembly side and multi-display assembly side) are not damaged.

OK:

The connectors are not deformed or damaged.

(b) without Navigation system:

(1) Disconnect the connectors from the center airbag sensor assembly and the air conditioner panel sub-assembly.

(2) Check that the connectors (on the center airbag sensor assembly side and air conditioner panel sub-assembly side) are not damaged.

OK:

The connectors are not deformed or damaged.

NG -- REPLACE INSTRUMENT PANEL WIRE
OK -- Continue to next step.

4. CHECK PASSENGER AIRBAG ON/OFF INDICATOR

(a) with Navigation system:





Connect the connector to the multi-display assembly.

(b) without Navigation system:

Connect the connector to the air conditioner panel sub-assembly.

(c) Connect the negative (-) terminal cable to the battery, and wait for at least 2 seconds.

(d) Turn the engine switch on (IG).

(e) Check the passenger airbag ON/OFF indicator operation.

OK:

The passenger airbag ON/OFF indicator does not come on.

NG -- CHECK INSTRUMENT PANEL WIRE (OPEN)
OK -- Continue to next step.

5. CHECK CENTER AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY

(a) Turn the engine switch off.





(b) Disconnect the negative (-) terminal cable from the battery, and wait for at least 90 seconds.

(c) Connect the connector to the center airbag sensor assembly.

(d) Connect the negative (-) terminal cable to the battery, and wait for at least 2 seconds.

(e) Turn the engine switch on (IG), and wait for at least 60 seconds.

(f) Clear the DTCs stored in the memory Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes.

(g) Turn the engine switch off.

(h) Turn the engine switch on (IG), and wait for at least 60 seconds.

(i) Check for DTCs Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes.

OK:

DTC B1660/43 is not output.

HINT
Codes other than DTC B1660/43 may be output at this time, but they are not related to this check.

OK -- USE SIMULATION METHOD TO CHECK Diagnosis System

6. CHECK INSTRUMENT PANEL WIRE (OPEN)

(a) Turn the engine switch off.





(b) Disconnect the negative (-) terminal cable from the battery, and wait for at least 90 seconds.

(c) with Navigation system:

Disconnect the connector from the multi-display assembly.

(d) without Navigation system:

Disconnect the connector from the air conditioner panel sub-assembly.

(e) Using a service wire, connect terminals 23 (PAON) and 17 (P-AB) of connector B.

NOTICE:
Do not forcibly insert a service wire into the terminals of the connector when connecting the wire.

(f) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

Standard resistance:

with Navigation system
without Navigation system










NG -- REPLACE INSTRUMENT PANEL WIRE
OK -- Continue to next step.

7. CHECK INSTRUMENT PANEL WIRE (SHORT)

(a) Disconnect the service wire from connector B.





(b) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

without Navigation system










NG -- REPLACE INSTRUMENT PANEL WIRE
OK -- Continue to next step.

8. CHECK INSTRUMENT PANEL WIRE (SHORT TO GROUND)

(a) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

OK -- Continue to next step.

9. CHECK INSTRUMENT PANEL WIRE (SHORT TO B+)

(a) Connect the negative (-) terminal cable to the battery, and wait for at least 2 seconds.





(b) Turn the engine switch on (IG).

(c) Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

B -- REPLACE AIR CONDITIONER PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY Removal

A -- REPLACE MULTI-DISPLAY ASSEMBLY Removal

C -- REPLACE INSTRUMENT PANEL WIRE

10. CHECK CONNECTION OF CONNECTORS

(a) Turn the engine switch off.

(b) Disconnect the negative (-) terminal cable from the battery, and wait for at least 90 seconds.

(c) with Navigation system:

Check that the connectors are properly connected to the center airbag sensor assembly and the multi-display assembly.

OK:

The connectors are properly connected.

(d) without Navigation system:

Check that the connectors are properly connected to the center airbag sensor assembly and the air conditioner panel sub-assembly.

OK:

The connectors are properly connected.

NG -- CONNECT CONNECTORS PROPERLY
OK -- Continue to next step.

11. CHECK CONNECTORS

(a) with Navigation system:

(1) Disconnect the connectors from the center airbag sensor assembly and the multi-display assembly.

(2) Check that the connectors (on the center airbag sensor assembly side and multi-display assembly side) are not damaged.

OK:

The connectors are not deformed or damaged.

(b) without Navigation system:

(1) Disconnect the connectors from the center airbag sensor assembly and the air conditioner panel sub-assembly.

(2) Check that the connectors (on the center airbag sensor assembly side and air conditioner panel sub-assembly side) are not damaged.

OK:

The connectors are not deformed or damaged.

NG -- REPLACE INSTRUMENT PANEL WIRE
OK -- Continue to next step.

12. CHECK INSTRUMENT PANEL WIRE (OPEN)

(a) Turn the engine switch off.





(b) Disconnect the negative (-) terminal cable from the battery, and wait for at least 90 seconds.

(c) with Navigation system:

Disconnect the connector from the multi-display assembly.

(d) without Navigation system:

Disconnect the connector from the air conditioner panel sub-assembly.

(e) Using a service wire, connect terminals 23 (PAON) and 17 (P-AB) of connector B.

NOTICE:
Do not forcibly insert a service wire into the terminals of the connector when connecting the wire.

(f) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

NG -- REPLACE INSTRUMENT PANEL WIRE
OK -- Continue to next step.

13. CHECK INSTRUMENT PANEL WIRE (SHORT)

(a) Disconnect the service wire from connector B.





(b) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

OK -- Continue to next step.

14. CHECK INSTRUMENT PANEL WIRE (SHORT TO GROUND)

(a) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

OK -- Continue to next step.

15. CHECK INSTRUMENT PANEL WIRE (SHORT TO B+)

(a) Connect the negative (-) terminal cable to the battery, and wait for at least 2 seconds.





(b) Turn the engine switch on (IG).

(c) Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

with Navigation system
without Navigation system










NG -- REPLACE INSTRUMENT PANEL WIRE
OK -- Continue to next step.

16. CHECK PASSENGER AIRBAG ON/OFF INDICATOR (SOURCE VOLTAGE)

(a) Turn the engine switch off.





(b) Disconnect the negative (-) terminal cable from the battery, and wait for at least 90 seconds.

(c) Connect the connectors to the center airbag sensor assembly.

(d) Connect the negative (-) terminal cable to the battery, and wait for at least 2 seconds.

(e) Turn the engine switch on (IG).

(f) Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

Standard voltage:

with Navigation system
without Navigation system










NG -- REPLACE WIRE HARNESS (PASSENGER AIRBAG ON/OFF INDICATOR - BATTERY) OR BATTERY
OK -- Continue to next step.

17. CHECK PASSENGER AIRBAG ON/OFF INDICATOR

(a) Turn the engine switch off.





(b) Disconnect the negative (-) terminal cable from the battery, and wait for at least 90 seconds.

(c) with Navigation system

Connect the connector to the multi-display assembly.

(d) without Navigation system

Connect the connector to the air conditioner panel sub-assembly.

(e) Disconnect the connectors from the center airbag sensor assembly.

(f) Connect the negative (-) terminal cable to the battery, and wait for at least 2 seconds.

(g) Turn the engine switch on (IG).

(h) Check the indicator according to the conditions in the table below.

Standard Indicator condition:

B -- REPLACE AIR CONDITIONER PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY Removal

A -- REPLACE MULTI-DISPLAY ASSEMBLY Removal
C -- Continue to next step.

18. CHECK CENTER AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY

(a) Turn the engine switch off.





(b) Disconnect the negative (-) terminal cable from the battery, and wait for at least 90 seconds.

(c) Connect the connectors to the center airbag sensor assembly.

(d) Connect the negative (-) terminal cable to the battery and wait for at least 2 seconds.

(e) Turn the engine switch on (IG), and wait for at least 60 seconds.

(f) Clear the DTCs stored in the memory Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes.

(g) Turn the engine switch off.

(h) Turn the engine switch on (IG), and wait for at least 60 seconds.

(i) Check for DTCs Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes.

OK:

DTC B1660/43 is not output.
