Service Category

Section

Market
Canada

APPLICABILITY:

INTRODUCTION:

Some vehicles may exhibit a squeak/squeal noise from the rear brakes during the first few applications. The noise is typically noticed after the vehicle has "cold soaked" and is being driven in reverse (backing up) and lightly braking. Once the brakes are warmed up, the noise typically goes away. This condition can be addressed by replacing the rear brake caliper mounting brackets and pads/shims/fitting kit, if appropriate. Follow the repair instructions in this bulletin to address this condition.

DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE

1. Conduct a road test to verify the rear brake squeak.

The condition usually occurs when backing up during light brake pedal pressure.

2. If the brake pads/shims have NOT been replaced previously AND the vehicle was produced BEFORE the Production Change Effective VIN for the pad/shim change, replace BOTH the pads/shims/fitting kit AND the rear brake caliper mounting brackets with the new parts.
Refer to Repair Procedures 1 and 2.

3. If the pads/shims have been replaced previously OR the vehicle was produced AFTER the Production Change Effective VIN for the pad/shim change and BEFORE the Production Change Effective VIN for the rear brake caliper mounting brackets, then replace the rear brake caliper mounting brackets ONLY.
Refer to Repair Procedure 2.

NOTE
Do NOT replace the pads/shims again if the pad backing plate contains material stamp code "D6247"

REPAIR PROCEDURE 1: REAR BRAKE PADS/SHIMS/FITTING KIT

10. Install the 2 rear disc brake pads with anti-squeal shim kit.
