WINDOW / GLASS: WINDSHIELD GLASS: REMOVAL
1. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL
NOTICE:
* w/ Navigation System:
After the engine switch is turned off, the display and navigation module display (navigation system) records various types of memory and settings. As a result, after turning the engine switch off, be sure to wait for the time specified in the following table before disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.
Waiting Time before Disconnecting Cable from Negative (-) Battery Terminal:
* When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected Repair Instruction - Initialization.
2. REMOVE UPPER RADIATOR SUPPORT SEAL Removal
3. REMOVE ENGINE ROOM SIDE COVER LH Removal
4. REMOVE ENGINE ROOM COVER SIDE Removal
5. REMOVE FRONT FENDER SIDE PANEL PROTECTOR LH Removal
6. REMOVE FRONT FENDER SIDE PANEL PROTECTOR RH Removal
7. REMOVE FRONT FENDER TO COWL SIDE SEAL LH Removal
8. REMOVE FRONT FENDER TO COWL SIDE SEAL RH Removal
9. REMOVE FRONT WIPER ARM HEAD CAP Removal
10. REMOVE FRONT WIPER ARM AND BLADE ASSEMBLY LH Removal
11. REMOVE FRONT WIPER ARM AND BLADE ASSEMBLY RH Removal
12. REMOVE COWL TOP VENTILATOR LOUVER SUB-ASSEMBLY Removal
13. REMOVE WINDSHIELD LOWER OUTSIDE MOULDING LH
(a) Remove the windshield outside moulding.
(1) Put protective tape around the moulding.
(2) Using a moulding remover, detach the 6 clips and remove the moulding.
NOTICE:
* When removing the windshield outside moulding, be careful not to damage the roof drip side finish moulding clip.
* If a roof drip side finish moulding clip is damaged or becomes detached from the vehicle, replace it with a new one.
14. REMOVE WINDSHIELD LOWER OUTSIDE MOULDING RH
HINT
Use the same procedure described for the LH side.
15. REMOVE NO. 1 WINDSHIELD OUTSIDE MOULDING CLIP
(a) Remove the 5 No. 1 windshield moulding clips.
HINT
Use the same procedure to remove the 5 clips on the other side.
16. REMOVE NO. 3 WINDSHIELD OUTSIDE MOULDING CLIP
HINT
Perform the following procedures if replacing any No. 3 windshield outside moulding clips.
(a) Put a 5 mm (0.157 in.) drill bit into a drill.
(b) Wind tape around the drill bit approximately 5 mm (0.197 in.) from the tip of the drill.
HINT
Tape the 5 mm (0.157 in.) drill bit to prevent the drill bit from going too deep.
(c) Lightly press the drill against the No. 3 windshield outside moulding clips, drill off the flanges of the No. 3 windshield outside moulding clips, and remove them.
NOTICE:
* Pressing the drill too firmly will cause the No. 3 windshield outside moulding clip to turn and result in the No. 3 windshield outside moulding clip not being drilled through.
* Do not pry the No. 3 windshield outside moulding clips with the drill because this may cause damage to the installation holes of the No. 3 windshield outside moulding clips or the drill bit.
CAUTION:
Be careful of the drilled No. 3 windshield outside moulding clips as they may become hot.
(d) Using a vacuum cleaner, remove the No. 3 windshield outside moulding clip fragments and shavings from the drilled areas.
HINT
Use the same procedure to remove clips on the other side.

39. REMOVE ROOF HEADLINING ASSEMBLY
(a) Partially remove the roof headlining.
HINT
It is not necessary to completely remove the roof headlining. Slightly lower the front section of the roof headlining so that the windshield glass can be removed in a later step.

40. REMOVE WINDSHIELD GLASS
NOTICE:
The stoppers are located on the windshield glass sub-assembly as shown in the illustration. Be careful not to damage the windshield glass when removing the stoppers.
HINT
Depending on the vehicle specifications, a 1-piece or 2-piece type stopper is used.

(a) Apply protective tape to the outer surface of the vehicle body to prevent scratches.

(b) From the interior, insert a piano wire between the vehicle body and glass as shown in the illustration.
(c) Tie objects that can serve as handles (for example, wooden blocks) to both wire ends.
NOTICE:
* When separating the glass from the vehicle, be careful not to damage the vehicle paint or interior/exterior ornaments.
* To prevent the instrument panel from being scratched when removing the glass, place a plastic sheet between the piano wire and instrument panel.

(d) Place matchmarks over the glass and vehicle body at the locations indicated in the illustration.
NOTICE:
Matchmarks do not need to be placed if not reusing the glass.

(e) w/ Windshield Deicer System:
Disconnect the windshield deicer connector.
(f) Cut through the adhesive by pulling the piano wire around the glass.
NOTICE:
Leave as much adhesive on the vehicle body as possible when removing the glass.
(g) Disconnect the stoppers.
(h) Using suction cups, remove the glass.
41. REMOVE WINDSHIELD GLASS ADHESIVE DAM
(a) Using a scraper, remove the adhesive dam.
NOTICE:
* Be careful not to damage the windshield glass.
* Be sure to replace the adhesive dam with a new one.
42. REMOVE WINDSHIELD OUTSIDE MOULDING
(a) Using a scraper, remove the moulding.
NOTICE:
* Be careful not to damage the windshield glass.
* Be sure to replace the moulding with a new one.
43. REMOVE NO. 2 WINDSHIELD GLASS STOPPER
(a) Using a scraper, remove the 2 stoppers.
NOTICE:
* Be careful not to damage the windshield glass.
* Be sure to replace the stoppers with new ones.
44. REMOVE NO. 1 WINDSHIELD GLASS STOPPER (for 2-piece Type)
(a) Remove the 2 No. 1 stoppers.
NOTICE:
Be sure to replace the No. 1 stoppers with new ones.
45. CLEAN WINDSHIELD GLASS
(a) Using a scraper, remove the damaged stoppers, dam and adhesive sticking to the glass.
(b) Clean the outer circumference of the glass with non-residue solvent.
NOTICE:
* Do not touch the surface of the glass after cleaning it.
* Be careful not to damage the glass.
* Even if using new glass, clean the glass with non-residue solvent.
46. CLEAN VEHICLE BODY
(a) Clean and shape the contact surface of the vehicle body.
(1) On the contact surface of the vehicle body, use a knife to cut away excess adhesive as shown in the illustration.
NOTICE:
Be careful not to damage the vehicle body.
HINT
Leave as much adhesive on the vehicle body as possible.
(b) Clean the contact surface of the vehicle body with cleaner.
HINT
Even if all the adhesive has been removed, clean the vehicle body.
