Navigation System - Poor Map Zoom Operation (Canada)

SYSTEM WILL NOT ZOOM CLOSER THAN A 16 MILE

LINCOLN:
2003-2006 LS, Town Car
2003-2005 Aviator
2003-2006 Navigator

ISSUE
Some 2003-2005 Aviator and 2003-2006 Lincoln LS, Navigator and Town Car vehicles equipped with a navigation system, may not zoom closer than a 16 mile scale (32 Km) when detailed map data is available. This may be due to the software within the navigation unit.

ACTION
It may be necessary to update the navigation system software to v05.10. Refer to the following Service Procedure.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

NOTE
DUE TO LIMITED QUANTITIES EACH DEALER WILL RECEIVE ONE (1) NAVIGATION SYSTEM UPDATE DISC AT NO CHARGE. DEALERS MAY PURCHASE SUBSEQUENT COPIES OF THE UPDATE DISC BY CONTACTING THE NEAREST VISTEON SERVICE CENTER.

WARNING
UPDATES SHOULD BE PERFORMED USING ONLY THE ORIGINAL DENSO ISSUED NAVIGATION SYSTEM UPDATE DISC. FAILURE TO DO SO MAY RESULT IN PERMANENT LOSS OF NAVIGATION SYSTEM FUNCTION.

WARNING
IT IS IMPERATIVE THAT THE IGNITION REMAIN IN THE RUN POSITION WITH BATTERY AT FULL CHARGE AND/OR ENGINE RUNNING DURING THE UPDATE PROCEDURE. FAILURE TO DO SO CAN RESULT IN PERMANENT LOSS OF NAVIGATION SYSTEM FUNCTION.

1. Place the ignition switch in the run position and leave in this position throughout this entire procedure.

2. Verify the current software level of the navigation unit by pressing the menu hard key followed by the information soft key.

a. If the software level is v05.10 or higher, do not continue with this TSB. Follow normal diagnostics per the Workshop Manual.

b. If the software level is lower than v05.10, proceed to Step 3.

3. Remove the map DVD disc from the navigation ECU by pressing the EJECT button on the ECU.

4. Insert the navigation system update disk into the Denso navigation ECU and wait 30 seconds. The system should automatically begin updating. Proceed to Step 5.

NOTE
IF THE SYSTEM DOES NOT BEGIN AUTOMATICALLY UPDATING, PERFORM STEPS 4a-d.

a. Enter the Lincoln navigation system (LNS) diagnostic screen, by pressing both the "Audio" and "Menu" buttons simultaneously and holding for about 5 seconds, until the screen displays "Enter Diagnostic Pin". The audio and menu buttons are located on the left side of the radio bezel and not on the touch screen.

b. Enter diagnostic personal identification number (PIN) 917, followed by pressing, "ENTER". The display will update to show hardware and software versions of the key navigation components.

c. Select the S/W UPDATE soft key located on the touch screen.

d. Select "Navi System". Proceed to Step 5.

5. The screen will display "The system S/W DVD is ready.. v05.10 Load?". Press "OK".

6. The screen will display "Are you sure you want to load V 05.10 S/W?". Press "YES".

7. Wait for the software to load. DO NOT CYCLE IGNITION KEY UNTIL UPDATE IS COMPLETE. The system will still be updating for approximately 1-2 minutes after the status bar reaches 99%.

8. The system will automatically perform a reset sequence when the S/W update is complete, and it will return to the Lincoln screen or one of the normal user screens.

9. Eject the navigation system update disk.

10. Reinsert the customer's map DVD disk.
