Interior Lighting

Interior Lighting

NOTE: The Smart Junction Box (SJB) is also known as the Generic Electronic Module (GEM).

The interior lighting system consists of the following components:

- Door ajar switches (part of the door latch)
- Instrument panel dimmer switch
- Interior/map lamps
- Footwell lamps
- Glove compartment lamp
- Vanity mirror lamps
- Liftgate/Trunk Module (LTM)
- Remote Function Actuator (RFA) module
- Puddle lamps
- SJB
- Interior Lighting Control Module (ILCM)
- Ambient lighting select switch
- Ambient lighting dimmer switch

The interior lighting system consists of 3 subsystems:

- Courtesy lamps
- Demand lamps
- Ambient lighting

Courtesy Lamps

The courtesy lamps are controlled by the SJB. The courtesy lamp subsystem consists of the door ajar switches (integrated into the door latches), the LTM, the interior dome lamps, the footwell lamps, the RFA module, the instrument panel dimmer switch and the puddle lamps.

Illuminated Entry

The illuminated entry requests the dimmable backlighting, the parking lamps, the ambient lighting and the courtesy lamps to illuminate when the ignition is OFF and a door is opened, the Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) transmitter UNLOCK button is pressed, or the vehicle is unlocked using the keyless entry keypad or driver door lock cylinder. If no doors are open, the illuminated entry requests the lamps off after 25 seconds have elapsed, the ignition is switched out of OFF, switched ON, the RKE transmitter LOCK button is pressed, or the vehicle is locked using the keyless entry keypad.

Interior Lighting Delay

The interior lighting delay feature provides temporary illumination of the dimmable backlighting, the parking lamps, and the courtesy lamps after the doors are opened and then closed. The interior lighting delay feature keeps the lamps on for a period of 25 seconds after all the doors or the liftgate are closed. If during the 25-second delay time the SJB detects that the ignition has been switched out of OFF, switched ON, or if the vehicle is locked using the RKE transmitter or the keyless entry keypad, the lamp illumination is discontinued.

Illuminated Exit

The illuminated exit requests the dimmable backlighting, the parking lamps, and the courtesy lamps (except the puddle lamps) to illuminate for 25 seconds after all doors are closed and the ignition is turned OFF. The illuminated exit deactivates when the ignition is changed from OFF, turned ON, a door or liftgate becomes ajar, or 25-seconds have elapsed.

Theater Lighting

The theater lighting feature ramps-up the courtesy lamps over 0.7 second when courtesy lamp activation is requested. The theater lighting feature ramps-down the courtesy lamps over 1.7 seconds when interior lighting deactivation is requested by any feature other than the panic alarm or battery saver.

Demand Lamps

The demand lamps are controlled by the SJB via the battery saver relay. The demand lamps subsystem consists of the map/reading lamps and the vanity mirror lamps located in the visors. The SJB energizes the battery saver relay to supply voltage to the demand lamps.

Ambient Lighting

The ambient lighting system consists of the ambient lighting select switch, the ambient lighting dimmer switch, the ILCM, and the harnesses with hardwired LEDs located within the front and rear footwells, the floor console cup holders, the inside door handles, the map pockets, the floor console storage tray and the storage bin.

There are 4 different color LEDs (red, blue, green, and white) housed within each LED assembly. By illuminating various color combinations, the LEDs are able to produce 7 different colors of ambient light.

With each press of the ambient lighting select switch, the ILCM cycles through a different color variation or turns the ambient lighting feature off. With each press of the ambient lighting dimmer switch, the ILCM changes the brightness setting of the ambient lighting. The module retains the last color setting and brightness between uses.

When the illuminated entry feature is active, the ambient lighting defaults to a pre-set color (white) and brightness setting. When all the doors are closed and the illuminated entry is no longer active, the ambient lighting returns to the last color and brightness setting that was set by the operator.

The color and brightness settings can only be changed when the ignition is in RUN state, the parking lamps are on, and all the doors are closed.

Battery Saver

NOTE: Time-out is 1 minute if the vehicle has less than 80 km (50 miles).

The SJB provides automatic shut-off of the demand lamps and courtesy lamps after a time-out period in order to save battery voltage. A timer in the SJB is started when the ignition is turned OFF, and all the doors, and the liftgate is closed. When 10 minutes have elapsed, the voltage is automatically shut off to the lamps by the SJB. While the SJB has voltage disabled, if the ignition state is changed to any position other than OFF, any door or the liftgate becomes ajar, the UNLOCK button of the Integrated Keyhead Transmitter (IKT) transmitter is pressed, a valid keypad code is entered, an unlock request from the door lock cylinder is received, or the instrument panel dimmer switch is pressed, the SJB restores voltage and starts the timer again.
