EEC - Test Procedure

Bulletin No. 81-20

Article No. 81-20-8

Date: October 5, 1981

SUBJECT:
EEC TEST PROCEDURE

LINCOLN MERCURY
1982 LINCOLN, MARK VI EFI
CALIBRATION 2-22A

An improper service code may be encountered when performing EEC "Quick test" on 1982 EFI Lincoln and Mark VI vehicles. The calibration affected is 2-22A with EEC calibration assemblies bearing the engineering number E2VF-12A649-JA (tear tag "JA").

When running the "Quick Test", the proper service code 22 will be received for a Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) failure. However, code 22 will also be received for a Throttle Position (TP) Sensor failure in place of the proper service code 23. If a failure occurs in the Air Charge Temperature (ACT) Sensor, an improper service code 23 will be received in place of the proper code 24.

It is imperative that the complete "Quick Test" diagnostic procedures shown in the 1982 diagnostic shop manual be performed. Complete procedures would include: "Key On/Engine Off" sensor readings. This test sequence should indicate any failure of the MAP, TP or ACT sensors. Failure to run the complete procedure will greatly increase the chance of replacing non-defective components. Neither the 1981 Shop Manual nor "Red Book" Manual, found in the Rotunda tester, address this condition.
