How the 1984 Emission TSB's Work

The 1984 car and truck emission related TSB's are arranged in the same basic format as the 1983 versions. This means that this first issue is divided into six sections and subsequent issues will simply be continuations of each section.

The six sections of this 1984 emission TSB are:

Calibration - This index will list all calibrations (car, truck, and diesel) under the various engine sizes and
Index also show the page that the calibration is located on. This index will be updated and reprint-
ed as subsequent TSB's are issued. ALWAYS KEEP THE NEWEST VERSION OF THE INDEX

ON FILE.

Section 1 - General information-consists of "how to" information.

Section 2 - Automatic Transmission specifications and shift speeds. This type of information will usually
appear only in this issue.

Section 3 - Passenger Car calibrations. Future TSB's will update any necessary information and addi-

tional calibrations will be added as they are released.

Section 4 - Truck (light and heavy duty) calibrations. Future TSB's will update any necessary information
and additional calibrations will be added as they are released.

Section 5 - Diesel (car and truck) calibrations. Future TSB's will update any necessary information and

CALIBRATION INFORMATION

Each calibration listed and its accompanying information appears on a separate page in the following format:

^ Calibration number and engine displacement
^ A photocopy of the Vehicle Emission Control Information (VECI) decal and its attached emission vacuum hose schematic. This decal should also be attached to the engine of the vehicle you are working on. For 1984, the VECI decal lists the Tune-up instructions and spark plug information.

MORE THAN ONE VECI DECAL MAY EXIST FOR EACH CALIBRATION. BEFORE ORDERING A DECAL, CONTACT YOUR DISTRICT OFFICE FOR THE CORRECT DECAL NUMBER THAT MATCHES THE VEHICLE AND CALIBRATION YOU ARE WORKING ON.

^ Carburetor, Distributor, and Propane specifications will be listed beneath the decal.

To locate a calibration, refer to the index which will list each calibration and its page number location. As future emission TSB's are issued, you will only receive the new calibrations issued and reprints of updated existing calibrations. Along with them, you will also receive a new updated index. Replace the existing index with the new updated version. Also, new and reprinted calibration pages will be page numbered in sequence from this first TSB. For example, car calibrations in this TSB end up on page 3-55. In the next issue of the emission TSB, the first car calibration will be numbered page 3-56. Always refer to the latest version of the index when looking up a calibration number.

This emission information is designed to be placed in the front of your Engine/Emissions shop manuals and be easily updated and added to.
