Cruise Control: Adjustments
Fig. 7 Servo assembly & throttle linkage installation. (typical):
BEAD CHAIN
Adjust bead chain cable to obtain desired free travel with engine warm and carburetor at idle position. Desired free travel is 1-8---1-4 inch, Fig. 7. The adjustment should be made to take as much slack as possible out of the bead chain without restricting the carburetor lever from returning to idle. On vehicles with solenoid anti-diesel valve, perform the adjustment with the ignition switch in the ON position.
ACTUATOR CABLE
1. Remove actuator cable retaining clip from speed control connection adjuster.
2. Disengage throttle positioner.
3. With carburetor in hot idle position, pull the actuator cable end tube until all slack is removed from cable.
4. While maintaining light tension on cable, install cable retaining clip.
Fig. 8 Vacuum dump valve adjustment (typical):
VACUUM DUMP VALVE
The vacuum dump valve is fully adjustable in its mounting bracket. When correctly adjusted, the valve should be closed when the brake pedal is in the released position, enabling the black housing of the valve to clear the adapter or pad on the brake pedal. If adjustment is necessary, hold the brake pedal down and push the dump valve forward through its adjustment collar. Position a .050 inch shim on the adapter or pad, Fig. 8, then pull brake pedal fully rearward. Release brake pedal and remove shim. The white plunger on the valve should be in contact with the adapter or pad, while the threaded black housing should have sufficient clearance away from it.
