Instrument Cluster / Carrier: Service and Repair


MARK VI & 1982---88 TOWN CAR
Less Electronic Cluster
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Disconnect speedometer cable, then remove trim cover screws and remove trim cover.
3. Remove lower steering column cover screws and remove cover.
4. Remove transmission indicator bracket retaining screw, then disconnect cable loop and bracket pin from steering column. Also remove the column bracket from column.
5. Remove cluster retaining screws, then disconnect electrical feed plug from connector and remove cluster.

With Electronic Cluster
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Remove steering column cover, lower instrument panel trim cover, keyboard trim panel and panel on left of column.
3. Remove the ten instrument cluster trim cover retaining screws, then remove trim cover.
4. Remove the four screws retaining instrument cluster to instrument panel and pull cluster forward. Disconnect both electrical plugs and ground wire from their receptacles, then disconnect speedometer cable by pressing on flat surface of plastic connector.
5. Remove transmission indicator cable bracket retaining screw, then disconnect cable loop and bracket pin from steering column.
6. Remove plastic clamp from around steering column, then remove cluster, Fig. 6.
7. Reverse procedure to install.
