Fuel Filter: Description and Operation
Fig. 13 Fuel injector:
There are four fuel filters used in the CFI system: 1) Fuel pump inlet, 2) Primary filter, 3) Secondary filter and 4) Injector filter.
The fuel pump inlet filter is a nylon element mounted at the inlet inside the fuel tank and protects the fuel pump from contaminants.
The primary filter is an inline replaceable type. It provides the filtration required to protect the small metering orifices of the injector nozzles. The filter is located downstream of the pump and is mounted to the chassis near the right rear wheelwell.
The secondary filter is a small serviceable filter located inline near the throttle body. This filter protects the injector nozzles from contaminants purged through the system during initial assembly and service. This filter should never need replacement.
The injector filter is located at the top of each injector, Fig. 13, and is not serviceable.
