The subject drive concerns can be caused by an eightcylinder distributor installed in a 3.8L engine or by a distributor that has been assembled with the wrong armature. When other diagnostic procedures fail to establish the cause of the subject concerns, verify the vehicle is equipped with the correct distributor and armature by referring to the following application chart.

NOTE: All 6-cylinder engines have a distributor equipped with a six-tooth armature. All 8- cylinder engines have a distributor equipped with an eight-tooth armature.

The 1985 8-cylinder truck engine has a distributor equipped with an armature that has the #1 tooth narrower than the other 7 teeth. This armature has 8-F stamped on top.
