This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act.

Ford Motor Company has determined that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in certain 1988 through 1991 Continental cars.

Safety Defect
When operated primarily in areas where large quantities of road salts are used for road dust or ice control, the front brake rotors on your car may corrode and progressively weaken. Eventually one of the rotors may fracture. If this occurs, the car may "pull" to one side during braking. In addition, stopping distances may be increased. A collision could result. A fractured rotor typically would produce a loud grinding or rattling noise.

Repairs
At no charge to you, your dealer will replace the front brake rotors and front brake pads on your car.

How long will service take?
The time needed to service your car is about one hour. However, due to scheduling times, your dealer may need your car for one full working day.

Call your dealer
Call your dealer without delay. Ask for a service date and whether parts are in stock.

If your dealer does not have the parts in stock, they can be ordered before scheduling your service date. Parts would be expected to arrive within a week.

When you bring your car in, give the dealer this letter.

If you misplace this letter, your dealer will still do the work, free of charge.

Refunds
If you have previously paid to have the front brake rotors and brake pads on your car replaced, Ford is offering a refund including deductible amounts. For a refund, please give the original copy of your paid work-order to your Lincoln-Mercury dealer.

Changed address or sold the car?
If you have, please fill out enclosed prepaid postcard and mail it to us.

If the dealer doesn't make the repair promptly and without charge, you should contact the Ford Parts and Service Division Office whose address is shown in your Owner Guide booklet. You also may send a complaint to the Administrator, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 400 Seventh Street, SW, Washington, DC 20590 or call the toll free Auto Safety Hotline 800-424-9393 (Washington DC area residents may call 366-0123).

We regret the inconvenience this service may cause you, but we want you to have the work done for your safety and satisfaction with your Ford-built car.
