Evaporative Emission Control Canister: Description and Operation

The carbon canister, Fig. 46, stores fuel vapors from the fuel tank and carburetor bowl until the engine is started. At this time, fuel vapors are purged from the canister into the engine for combustion. Depending on application, either a 925 ml or 1400 ml canister is used.
On vehicles equipped with a dual canister system, two canisters are linked together and the second canister is used for ``spill over'' fuel vapors.
