REMOVAL

1. Disconnect distributor from wiring harness.
2. Mark position of No. 1 cylinder wire tower on distributor base for reference when installing distributor.
3. Loosen distributor cap hold-down screws. Prevent damage to rotor blade and spring by removing cap straight off distributor. Place cap and wires aside as not to interfere.
4. Pull upward to remove rotor from distributor shaft and armature. Then remove hold-down bolt and clamp. Finally, pull upward to remove distributor.

INSTALLATION

1. No. 1 piston must be at Top Dead Center (TDC) of compression stroke. Remove cylinder No. 1 spark plug and rotate engine clockwise until piston No. 1 is on the compression stroke. Then align timing pointer with TDC on the crankshaft damper.
2. Align locating boss on rotor with hole on armature. Fully seat rotor on distributor shaft. Rotate distributor shaft so blade on rotor is pointing toward mark on distributor base, previously made.
3. Continue rotating rotor slightly so leading edge of vane is centered in vane switch stator assembly. Align leading edge of vane and vane switch stator assembly by rotating distributor in block. If vane and vane switch stator can't be aligned in this matter, remove distributor enough to just disengage distributor gear from camshaft gear. Rotate rotor enough to engage distributor gear on another camshaft gear tooth.
4. Tighten distributor hold-down bolt and clamp, but leave loose enough to rotate distributor. Next, install distributor cap, spark plug and ignition wires. Tighten distributor cap hold-down screws to specification then reconnect distributor to wiring harness.
5. After setting initial timing, tighten distributor hold-down bolt.
