Transaxle Fluid Cooler Flow Test

TRANSAXLE FLUID COOLER FLOW TEST

NOTE: Ensure linkage adjustment, fluid level, and control pressure are satisfactory before performing test.

1. Remove dipstick from filler tube, then place funnel in filler tube.
2. Raise and support vehicle, then remove cooler return line (lower fitting) from fitting on transaxle case.
3. Connect a suitable hose to cooler return line, then insert other end of hose into funnel in dipstick tube.
4. Start engine and set idle at 1,000 RPM with transaxle in the Neutral range.
5. Note fluid flow at funnel.
6. When fluid flow is solid, flow should be about 1 quart in 15-30 seconds.
7. If fluid flow is not satisfactory, stop engine.
8. Disconnect hose from cooler return line and connect it to converter-out line fitting (upper fitting) on transaxle case.
9. Repeat steps 4 through 7. If fluid flow is not satisfactory, possible cause may be low pump capacity, main circuit system leakage, or stuck converter drain valve or converter regulator valve.
