Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.
Manuals through 2025 now available!

Our trusted friends have launched a new website named LEMON, which has newer manuals. It also contains all the CHARM manuals.

LEMON is the spiritual successor to CHARM, I recommend you try it!

Brake Switch (Cruise Control): Testing and Inspection

Perform this test only when the brake application will not disconnect the speed control system.
1. Check stoplamp operation by applying approximately 6 lbs. of pressure to the brake pedal. If more than 6 lbs. of pressure is required, check brake pedal actuation and stop lamp switch.
2. If stop lamps do not function properly, check stop lamp switch, circuit fuse or bulbs.
3. If stoplamps function properly, check for battery voltage on white/purple wire (circuit 296) at amplifier six pin connector.
4. Depress brake pedal until stoplamps are lit.
5. Check voltage on light green lead (circuit 511) at amplifier 6 pin connector. The difference between this and the voltage reading in step 3, must not exceed 1.5 volts.
7. If voltage difference is greater than 1.5 volts, a high resistance in the circuit exists which must be found and corrected.
8. Perform ``Vacuum Dump Valve Test.''
