Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview

TESTING NOTES
Ensure the following diagnosis procedures are used in the sequence and step-by-step order indicated. Following the wrong sequence or bypassing steps will only lead to unnecessary replacement of system components and/or incorrect resolution of the problem. The diagnostic procedure consists of five sub-tests: Pre-test Checks, On-Board Self-Tests, Manual Quick Tests, Warning Lamp Symptom Chart and the Diagnostic Tests. Do not attempt to bypass any procedure steps or tests.

1. Verify that the parking brake is completely released. If the parking brake is applied, the ``Brake'' lamp will be illuminated.
2. Check brake fluid. As the fluid level drops, the red ``Brake'' lamp will illuminate. If fluid level continues to fall, the amber ``Check Anti-Lock Brake'' lamp will illuminate and the anti-lock function will be inhibited.
3. Verify that all of the following connectors are properly connected and in good operating condition:
a. 55 pin connector of the computer module.
b. 19 pin connector of HCU valve body.
c. 4 and 7 pin connectors of pump motor relay.
d. 3 pin connector of master cylinder reservoir.
e. 2 pin connector of HCU reservoir.
f. 5 pin connector of main power relay.
g. 2 pin connector of each wheel sensor.
h. 2 pin connector of pedal travel switch.
i. 2 pin connector of stoplamp switch.
4. Check that the fuses and diodes are not damaged.
5. Ensure all battery connections are clean and tight.
6. Check ground connections for anti-lock system located near computer module and pump motor relay.
