Engine: Service and Repair

1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Drain cooling system and engine oil.
3. Mark position of hood hinges and remove hood.
4. Relieve fuel line pressure and discharge air conditioning system.
5. Disconnect the following:
a. Alternator-to-voltage regulator wiring harness.
b. Electric cooling fan and motor assembly.
c. Transaxle oil cooler lines, then the transaxle pressure switch wiring.
d. Heater hoses at engine block.
e. Power steering hoses and hose routing brackets.
f. A/C compressor clutch electrical connector, then the compressor discharge hose.
g. Fuel lines.
h. Power steering pump tube bracket.
i. Electronic engine control (EEC-IV) wiring assembly.
j. Vacuum lines and ground wires.
k. Throttle cable at throttle valve.
6. Remove engine oil dipstick, then the upper radiator sight shield.
7. Remove integrated controller relay and position aside.
8. Remove air cleaner assembly, fan shroud, upper radiator hose and coolant recovery reservoir.
9. Remove wiring shield, then the accelerator cable mounting bracket.
10. Remove air suspension compressor and position aside.
11. Remove transaxle support assembly attaching bolts, then the support assembly.
12. Remove A/C compressor mounting bolts, then the compressor.
13. Raise and support vehicle.
14. Remove oil filter.
15. Disconnect exhaust gas oxygen sensor.
16. Release tension of drive belts, then remove crankshaft pulley and drive belt tensioner.
17. Remove starter motor.
18. Remove catalytic converter housing cover, then the converter and inlet pipe assembly.
19. Remove engine mount attaching nuts, then the torque converter-to-flywheel attaching nuts.
20. Remove oil level indicator sensor.
21. Disconnect lower radiator hose.
22. Loosen engine-to-transaxle attaching bolts, leaving bolts loosely installed.
23. Remove wheel and tire assemblies.
24. Remove drive belts.
25. Remove water pump pulley attaching bolts, then the pulley.
26. Remove radiator.
27. Remove distributor cap and position aside. Remove distributor rotor.
28. Remove exhaust manifold lock bolts.
29. Remove thermactor air pump attaching bolts, then the pump.
30. Disconnect oil pressure sending unit.
31. Remove engine-to-transaxle bolts.
32. Install suitable engine lifting device and position transmission jack under transaxle.
33. Raise transaxle assembly, then lift engine from vehicle.
34. Reverse procedure to install.
