Digital Volt-Ohmmeter

Digital Volt-Ohmmeter:

The Digital Volt/Ohm Meter (DVOM) is similar to the analog meter, except the DVOM uses numerical values, instead of a sweeping needle. Another primary difference is that some DVOMs are equipped with an internal resistance of 10 mega ohms; which allows the DVOM to be used in measuring critical circuits without the fear of damage being caused.
Special test leads and connectors allow some DVOMs to be connected to other test equipment within a shop.
Like the analog meter, the DVOM is equipped with test leads (red = positive, black = negative or ground). The test leads have polarity and must be connected properly. If a DVOM is connected backwards and minus sign (-) is normally indicated in the read-out display.
