Tightening Specifications

Cylinder Head Torque Specifications
Using only New head bolts, torque all bolts in numerical sequence to the following specifications in each step. This procedure has been updated by TSB 98-4-9 dated 03/02/98 Cooling System- Coolant Loss and/or Overheating
Step 1 20
Step 2 40
Step 3 50
Step 4 -
Loosen long bolts (bolt numbers 1, 3, 5, 7) and back out 2-3 turns.
Step 5 40-50
Retorque long bolts.
Step 6 -
Rotate long bolts an additional 175-185 degrees (approximately 1/2 turn). Go to the next bolt in sequence.
Step 7 -
Loosen short bolts (bolt numbers 2, 4, 6, 8) and back out 2-3 turns.
Step 8 20-30
Retorque short bolts.
Step 9 -
Rotate short bolts an additional 175-185 degrees (approximately 1/2 turn). Go to the next bolt in sequence.
