ISSUE:
A fuel odor may be noticed inside the passenger compartment at temperatures above 32°C (90° F) when the air conditioning is operating in the maximum mode. This occurs because the fuel filler vapor tube is vented below the back seat area.
ACTION:
Install a new Auxiliary Vapor Tube Service Kit and relocate the vapor tube near the rear bumper. Refer to the following parts information for the correct service kit usage and the Instruction Sheet (I.S. 6306, 6307, or 6308), included in each kit, for installation details.
Each of the three (3) service kits include the following items:
^ One (1) Auxiliary Vapor Tube Assembly
^ Four (4) Vapor Tube Clips
^ One (1) End Clip (if appropriate)
^ Three (3) or tour (4) Screws (as required)
^ One (1) L-fitting Canister
^ One (1) 12.7 mm (1/2") I.D. Fuel Hose - 7.3 meters (24') long
^ Seventeen (17) Fuel Vapor Hose Clamps
^ One (1) 9.5 mm (3/8") I.D. Fuel Hose - 51 mm (2") long
^ One (1) 101.6 mm (4.0") Bundling Strap
^ One (1) Fuel Line Connector Sleeve
^ One (1) Instruction Sheet (I.S. 6306, 6307, or 6308)
Two of the service kits (for the Taurus/Sable Sedan and Continental) include the following additional items:
^ One (1) Plastic Clip
^ One (1) Screw - M6.3x1.81x13 hex wash tap
^ One (1) Wrap-around Bolt Mount Clip
Obtain an Authorized Modification Decal (FPS 8262 - obtainable through DOES II, 25/pkg) and list the date, dealer number, and summary of modifications performed. Select a prominent place adjacent to the Vehicle Emission Control Information Decal suitable for installing the Authorized Modifications Decal. Clean the area, install the decal, and cover it with a clear plastic decal shield.
