Front Shoulder Strap Adjuster With Stripped Weld Nuts
TOOLS REQUIRED"D" Ring Adjuster Weld Nut Thread Repair Kit 134-00018
1. With the "B" pillar interior trim panel removed, drill out the damaged threads in the upper "B" pillar structure using the 1/2-inch drill provided in the Rotunda "D" Ring Adjuster Weld Nut Thread Repair Kit 134-00018 or equivalent.
2. Apply a suitable lubricant to the threads of the M14 x 1.5 tap provided in the kit and tap new threads.
NOTE:
^ After each rotation, back tap off slightly to remove new cuttings and be sure to blow out any chips before performing Step 3.
^ The drive "kees" on the insert will act as an automatic stop.
3. Select one of the thread inserts provided in the "D" Ring Adjuster Weld Nut Thread Repair kit and hand screw it into the re-tapped hole until it is slightly below the surface of the hole.
4. After insertion of the thread insert, use a 12 oz. hammer to lightly tap the installation tool (provided in the "D" Ring Adjuster Weld Nut Thread Repair Kit) several times to drive down the insert "kees".
NOTE: If the two hex head attaching bolts on the front seat shoulder strap adjuster are not stripped, install the front seat shoulder strap adjuster to the body structure as stated in Step 5. If the front seat shoulder strap adjuster attaching bolts are stripped, replace the front seat shoulder strap adjuster and install it to the body structure as stated in Step 5.
5. Insert the front seat shoulder strap adjuster in the opening of the upper "B" pillar structure, making sure that safety belt front seat shoulder strap adjuster knob on the front seat shoulder strap adjuster is positioned above the "D" ring attachment stud. (The fool-proof tab is located at the bottom and is to be inserted in the provided hole in the "B" pillar structure.)
6. Align both attaching hex head bolts in the front seat shoulder strap adjuster to the weld nuts in the "B" pillar reinforcement.
7. Hand start the top attaching bolt and tighten until it is snug.
8. Hand start the bottom attaching bolt and tighten until it is snug.
9. Tighten the top and bottom attaching bolts to 30-43 Nm (22-32 ft lbs).
10. After installation of the front seat shoulder strap adjuster, install the interior trim components previously removed.
NOTE: Knob must be able to travel from top to bottom of slot in the "B" pillar finish panel.
11. Function the front seat shoulder strap adjuster knob by squeezing the release button and sliding the adjuster up and down.
12. Position the safety belt "D" ring to the "B" pillar. Position and hand start the retaining nut on the front seat shoulder strap adjuster stud. Tighten to 23.5-31.5 Nm (17-23 ft lbs).
13. Check to see that the safety belt "D" ring rotates freely after installation.
14. Install the safety belt "D" ring cover over the retaining nut and snap it into place.
15. Position the front seat shoulder strap adjuster knob in the uppermost position.
