TRANSAXLE - AXOD, AXODE, AX4S - LEAK AT TORQUE CONVERTER HUB SEAL DUE TO INCORRECT TOOL USAGE

LINCOLN-MERCURY: 1986-94 SABLE 1988-94 CONTINENTAL

ISSUE:
A leak may occur at the torque converter hub seal if an incorrect seal installation tool is used. The wrong tool may cause the garter spring on the seal to move out of place and allow the seal to leak.

ACTION:
Use Front Pump Seal Replacer T87L-77837-AH any time the converter hub seal is replaced. This is the only tool that holds proper tension on the garter spring during installation of the seal. Refer to the appropriate Service Manual, Section 07-01, for service details. Use a dead blow (lead filled) hammer to facilitate seal installation.
