Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.

Instrument Cluster

1. Verify the customer's concern by operating the instrument cluster to duplicate the condition by observing the indicators and gauges to determine if they are operating properly with the ignition switch:
- in RUN with the engine off.
- in START before the ignition switch is released.
- in RUN with the engine running.

2. Inspect to determine if any of the following mechanical or electrical concerns apply.

VISUAL INSPECTION CHART

Mechanical
- Engine coolant level
- Accessory drive belt
- Engine oil level
- Brake fluid level

Electrical
- Damaged fuse: fuse junction panel
+ Fuse 20 (10 A)
+ Fuse 17 (10 A)
+ Fuse 5 (10 A)
+ Fuse 28 (10 A)
- Circuit wiring
- Switches or sensors

3. If the inspection reveals obvious concern(s) that can be readily identified, service as required.

4. If the concern remains after the inspection, connect the Rotunda New Generation Star (NGS) Tester to the Data Link Connector (DLC) located beneath the instrument panel to perform DATA LINK DIAGNOSTIC TEST. If the NGS responds with NO RESPONSE/NOT EQUIPPED for the hybrid electronic instrument cluster, go to Pinpoint Test A. A: No Communication W/Hybrid Electronic Cluster Module

If the NGS responds with NO RESPONSE/NOT EQUIPPED for the steering column/ignition/lighting control module, go to Pinpoint Test B. If the DATA LINK DIAGNOSTIC TEST is passed for the hybrid electronic instrument cluster and the steering column/ignition/lighting control module, retrieve continuous Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) and execute Self Test Diagnostics for the hybrid electronic instrument cluster and the steering column/ignition/lighting control module. B: No Communication W/Steering Column/Ign/Lighting Module

5. If the self test is passed and no Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) are retrieved, go to the Symptom Chart to continue diagnostics. Symptom Related Diagnostic Procedures

6. If DTCs are retrieved for the hybrid electronic instrument cluster, go to the Hybrid Electronic Instrument Cluster (HEC) Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Index to continue diagnostics. If DTCs are retrieved for the steering column/ignition/lighting control module, go to the Steering Column/Ignition/Lighting Control (SCIL) Module Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Index to continue diagnostics. Steering Column/Ign/Lighting (SCIL) Control Module DTC Index

7. If the hybrid electronic instrument cluster cannot be accessed by the NGS tester, go to Pinpoint Test A. A: No Communication W/Hybrid Electronic Cluster Module

If the steering column/ignition/lighting control module cannot be accessed by the NGS tester, go to Pinpoint Test B. B: No Communication W/Steering Column/Ign/Lighting Module
