Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview

1. Verify the customer's concern by operating the ignition switch to duplicate the condition.
2. Inspect to determine if one of the following mechanical or electrical concerns apply:

VISUAL INSPECTION CHART

Mechanical
- Damaged ignition switch,

Electrical
- Blown Fuse in Power Distribution Box
+ Fuse 26 (2OA)
+ Fuse 27 (3OA)
- Circuitry open/shorted.

3. If the inspection reveals obvious concerns that can he readily identified, service as required.
4. If ignition switch concerns remain after inspection, connect the Rotunda New Generation Star (NGS) Tester to the Data Link Connector (DLC)located beneath the instrument panel to perform DATA LINK DIAGNOSTIC TEST. If the New Generation Star Tester responds with NO RESPONSE/NOT EQUIPPED for steering column/ignition/lighting control module, go to Pinpoint Test B. Test B : No Communication W/Steering Column/Ign/Lighting Module
If the DATA LINK DIAGNOSTIC TEST is passed for the steering column/ignition/lighting control module, retrieve continuous Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) and execute Self Test Diagnostics for steering column/ignition/lighting control module.
5. If self test is passed and no diagnostic trouble codes are retrieved, go to the Symptom Chart to continue diagnostics. Symptom Related Diagnostic Procedures
6. If diagnostic trouble codes are retrieved. go to the Steering Column/Ignition/Lighting Control Module Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Index to continue diagnostics. [1][2]Diagnostic Trouble Code Index
7. If the steering column/ignition/lighting control module cannot be accessed by the New Generation Star Tester, go to Pinpoint Test B. Test B : No Communication W/Steering Column/Ign/Lighting Module
