Power Steering

NOTE: Always flush the power steering system when replacing power steering pump due to fluid contamination.

1. Remove powertrain control module fuse from power distribution box.





2. Disconnect the power steering return hose at the power steering pump reservoir.
a. Compress and move hose clamp (1).
b. Disconnect the power steering return hose (2) and plug the fitting to the power steering pump reservoir.
3. Attach an extension hose between the power steering return hose and an empty container.
4. Raise the front wheels off the floor.





5. Fill the power steering pump reservoir. Use Premium Power Steering Fluid E6AZ-19582-AA or equivalent meeting Ford specification ESW-M2C33-F.





6. Turn the steering wheel from lock-to-lock while cranking the engine. Refill the power steering pump reservoir as necessary until approximately 1.9 liters (0.5 gal) of power steering fluid has been used.





7. Remove extension hose and connect power steering return hose to power steering pump reservoir.
a. Remove plug and connect power steering return hose (1).
b. Compress and move hose clamp into place (2).
8. Lower vehicle.
9. Install powertrain control module fuse in power distribution box.
10. Start engine and turn steering wheel slowly from lock to lock several times.
11. Check fluid level and adjust as required.

CAUTION: Do not overfill power steering pump reservoir.
