Removal
Special Tools:
Removal
1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
2. Remove the LH dash close-out panel.
^ Remove the three pushpins.
^ Disconnect the courtesy lamp.
3. Remove the steering column boot.
^ Remove the bolts.
^ Position the boot.
4. Disconnect the steering column from the steering gear.
^ Remove the steering column pinch bolt.
^ Separate the steering column from the steering gear.
5. Remove the air cleaner outlet tube.
6. Remove the bolt and position the roll restrictor out of the way.
7. Drain the engine cooling system.
8. Lower the vehicle.
9. Recover the A/C system.
10. Disconnect the fuel line.
11. Disconnect the main chassis vacuum supply hose.
12. Disconnect the powertrain control module (PCM) ground straps.
13. Disconnect the engine control sensor wiring from the PCM.
14. Disconnect the engine control sensor wiring from the mass air flow (MAF) sensor.
15. Remove the accelerator cable snow shield.
16. Disconnect the accelerator cable and the speed control actuator cable from the throttle body.
17. Remove the bolts and the accelerator cable bracket and position it out of the way.
18. Disconnect the manual control cable from the transmission shift selector.
1. Remove the retaining nut and clip.
^ Disconnect the manual control lever.
19. Disconnect the engine control sensor wiring from the three main engine compartment wiring harness connectors.
20. Remove the bolt from the retaining bracket and position the main engine compartment harness out of the way.
21. Disconnect the evaporative emissions return line.
22. Disconnect the transaxle cooler tubes.
^ Disconnect the fluid cooler inlet tube.
^ Disconnect the transaxle cooler outlet tube.
23. Remove the oil level dipstick.
24. Disconnect the heater water hose from the water bypass tube.
25. Disconnect the heater water hose.
26. Disconnect the hose.
27. Disconnect the power steering return hose and allow to drain.
28. Remove the nut and the bolt and position the generator battery lead out of the way.
29. Partially raise the vehicle.
30. Remove the front wheel and tire assemblies.
31. Fully raise the vehicle.
32. Disconnect the RH and LH height sensor links.
33. Separate the RH and LH halfshafts from the front wheel knuckle.
34. Remove the RH and LH front axle wheel hub retainers.
35. Remove the RH and LH tie rod ends from the front wheel knuckles.
36. Disconnect the RH and LH front suspension lower arms from the front wheel knuckles.
37. Remove the RH and LH front stabilizer bar links.
38. Remove the lower radiator air deflector.
39. Remove the dual converter Y pipe.
40. Disconnect the power steering cooler line.
41. Disconnect the A/C compressor lines from the A/C compressor.
42. Disconnect the lower radiator hose.
43. Disconnect the wiring from the starter motor.
44. Remove the front sub-frame brackets.
45. Remove the torque converter shield.
46. Remove the four nuts.
47. Support the front sub-frame with a powertrain lift and universal powertrain removal bracket.
48. Remove the four bolts.
49. Lower the subframe.
50. Install the Spreader Bar Set.
51. Support the engine and transaxle with a spreader bar and a suitable floor crane.
52. Disconnect the engine control sensor wiring electrical connector from the EVO sensor.
53. Disconnect the power steering return hose from the steering gear.
54. Disconnect the turbine shaft speed sensor.
55. Disconnect the digital transmission range (TR) sensor.
56. Disconnect the internal transmission wiring harness connector.
57. Disconnect the RH engine support insulator.
58. Remove the bolts retaining the LH engine support insulator.
59. Remove the two bolts.
60. Remove the four bolts.
61. Remove the two bolts.
62. Remove the RH engine support insulator bracket.
63. Separate the engine from the transaxle.
64. Remove the engine assembly.
65. Remove the bolts.
66. Place the engine on a suitable work stand.
67. Remove the engine lifting equipment.
