V6 Vehicles Requiring A New PCM

1. Disconnect the battery.

2. Replace the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) with the correct part which can be found in the chart in Figure 1. Refer to Workshop Manual, Section 303-14 for additional information.

NOTE
A PARAMETER RESET MUST BE PERFORMED FOR THE PASSIVE ANTI-THEFT SYSTEM (PATS) TO OPERATE. FAILURE TO DO SO WILL RESULT IN A NO START CONDITION.

NOTE
DO NOT ERASE KEYS. IT MAY BE NECESSARY TO CYCLE THE KEY FROM OFF TO RUN 3 TIMES, EACH TIME LEAVING THE KEY IN THE RUN POSITION SO THE PATS MODULE WILL STORE THE NEW PCM ID.

3. Replace the Idle Air Control (IAC) Valve, Gasket and Bolts. IAC Part Number 1F2Z-9F715-AA, gasket Part Number E83Z-9F670-A, bolts Part Number W704751-S309. Torque bolts to 89 Lb-in (10 N.m). Leave the electrical connector unplugged. Refer to Workshop Manual, Section 303-14 for additional information.

NOTE
DISCARD IAC SPACER (IF EQUIPPED).

4. Install the IAC Jumper Harness, Part Number 2W4Z-14A411-DA, by using the following procedure:

a. Lift the Front Power Distribution Box (underhood) by disengaging three (3) retaining clips securing it to the vehicle (2 in rear - 1 in front). Gently lift and roll the box forward exposing the bottom cover.

b. Remove the bottom cover of the box by releasing the five (5) retaining clips located along the sides of the cover.

c. Position the box right side up and open the top cover. Remove the now exposed bolt securing the electrical connection to the rear/inside of the box. Refer to Figure 2.

d. Route the eyelet end of the 2W4Z-14A411-DA Jumper Harness under the rear/inside section of the box and position the eyelet over the electrical connection.

e. Install the retaining bolt. Torque to 105 Lb-in (12 N.m).

f. Install the lower cover on the box. Carefully tuck all the wires behind the cover so they will not be pinched between the cover and the box.

g. Carefully route the Jumper Harness around the front of the box. Avoid sharp edges and any opportunity to pinch or trap the harness. Refer to Figure 3.

h. Install the box by sliding back over the brackets and engage the retaining clips.

i. Route the Jumper Harness parallel with the right inner fender. Secure the first Christmas Tree fastener in the vacant hole in the inner fender. Refer to Figure 4.

j. Remove the push pin fastener from far right side of the cowl leaf screen. Lift the right edge slightly and route the Jumper Harness into the engine compartment between the hood to cowl seal and the strut tower brace. Refer to Figure 5.

k. Route the Jumper Harness along the existing engine harness, securing in 2 places with tie strap. Refer to Figure 6.

l. Route the Jumper Harness under the intake manifold and behind the intake manifold support bracket located in the middle of the right cam cover. Secure the Jumper Harness to the EGR vacuum harness with a tie strap. Refer to Figure 6.

m. Route the Jumper Harness along the right cam cover and tie strap to the small wiring harness which is secured to the lower front attaching stud on the cam cover. Refer to Figure 7.

NOTE
DO NOT ALLOW THE JUMPER HARNESS TO MAKE CONTACT WITH THE EGR TUBE OR DPFE HOSES.

n. Pass the Jumper Harness under the upper radiator hose and connect to the IAC. Connect the original IAC connector/harness to the folded back connector on the Jumper Harness. Refer to Figure 7.

o. Connect the battery. Check for and clear any Diagnostic Trouble Codes that may be stored in the PCM.
