FORD:
1999-2000 EXPEDITION

LINCOLN:
1999-2000 CONTINENTAL, TOWN CAR 2000 LS
1999-2000 NAVIGATOR

ISSUE
Some 1999-2000 Expeditions, Navigators and Town Cars built through 8/31/1999 and some 1999-2000 Continentals and 2000 LSs built through 10/15/1999 may experience an inaccurate ambient temperature display under certain weather and low-medium driving speed conditions. The outside temperature display on the EATC may read lower than the actual outside temperature and will update slowly under conditions similar to:

^ Parking in a cool garage and driving out on a warm day at low-medium speeds in stop-and-go traffic.

^ Restarting a vehicle while engine coolant temperature is still warm and where the outside temperature has increased and then driving in low-medium speeds in stop-and-go traffic.

ACTION
Reprogram the EATC module which should correct the outside temperature display by increasing the frequency of sample temperature readings taken from the ambient sensor. Refer to the following Service Procedure for details.

SERVICE PROCEDURE
1. Hook-up the New Generation Star (NGS) Tester to the vehicle with FSF card Version 6.3.

2. Select: SERVICE BAY FUNCTIONS.

3. Select: EATC ELECT AUTO TEMP CNTRL MODULE.

4. Select: MODULE CONFIGURATION.

5. Select one of the following picks:

^ 99-00 CONTINENTAL

^ 99-00 EXPEDITION

^ 00 LINCOLN LS

^ 99-00 NAVIGATOR

^ 99 TOWN CAR

^ 00 TOWN CAR

6. At this point the NGS Tester will automatically finish the software change. The technician will either receive a positive or negative response. If the EATC module matches the criteria on the FSF card, the NGS Tester will change the appropriate data and display a positive response. If the EATC module has already been updated or the EATC module does not match the criteria on the FSF card, the NGS Tester will state that the module does not need to be updated and the Tester will not change any of the EATC software.
