Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview
1. Verify the customer's concern by operating the power seat(s) to duplicate the condition.2. Inspect to determine if one of mechanical or electrical concerns apply.
Visual Inspection Chart:
3. If the inspection reveals obvious concern(s) that can be readily identified, repair as required.
4. If the concern remains after the inspection, connect the scan tool to the Data Link Connector (DLC) located beneath the instrument panel and select the vehicle to be tested from the scan tool menu. If the scan tool does not power up:
- check that the program card is correctly inserted
- check the connections to the vehicle
- check the ignition switch position
If the scan tool still does not power up, refer to the scan tool manual.
5. Carry out the Data Link Diagnostic Test using the scan tool. Pinpoint Test PC (Precheck)
If the scan tool responds with:
- CKT914 or CKT915 = ALL MODULE NO RESP/NOT EQUIP, go to Communication System Diagnostics in Module Communications Network (Information Bus) to diagnose the network concern.
- NO RESP/NOT EQUIP for the Driver Seat Module (DSM), go to Pinpoint Test B. Test B: No Communication With The Driver Seat Module - Unable To Carry Out The Driver Seat Module Self-Test
- NO RESP/NOT EQUIP for the Driver Door Module (DDM), go to Pinpoint Test A. Test A: No Communication With The Driver Door Module - Unable To Carry Out The Driver Door Module Self-Test
- If the DSM is not listed for a communication concern, turn the ignition switch to RUN, retrieve and record the continuous diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs), erase the continuous DTCs, then execute the Self-Test diagnostics for the DSM. If the DSM exits the diagnostic state during the self-test and returns to a normal operating state, go to Pinpoint Test B. Test B: No Communication With The Driver Seat Module - Unable To Carry Out The Driver Seat Module Self-Test
- If the DDM is not listed for a communication concern, turn the ignition switch to RUN, make sure all doors are closed, retrieve and record the continuous Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs), erase the continuous DTCs, then execute the Self-Test diagnostics for the DDM. If the DDM exits diagnostic state during the self-test and returns to normal operating state, go to Pinpoint Test A. Test A: No Communication With The Driver Door Module - Unable To Carry Out The Driver Door Module Self-Test
6. If the DSM DTCs retrieved are related to the concern, go to the Driver Seat Module (DSM) Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Index to continue the diagnostics. Diagnostic Trouble Code Descriptions
7. If the DDM DTCs retrieved are related to the concern, go to the Driver Door Module (DDM) Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Index to continue the diagnostics. Diagnostic Trouble Code Descriptions
8. If no DTCs related to the concern are retrieved, go to the Symptom Chart to continue diagnostics. Symptom Related Diagnostic Procedures
