Keyless Entry Transmitter: Description and Operation

Remote Transmitter

The remote transmitter can be programmed using a diagnostic tool or by using the ignition lock cylinder method.

The remote transmitter initiates the following electronic system functions:
- unlocks the driver door
- unlocks all doors
- locks all doors
- activate/deactivate the panic alarm
- commands the interior lamps on (when unlocking) and off (when locking)
- sounds the horn once when LOCK is pressed twice within three seconds, and doors are closed

The remote transmitter has a minimum operating range of 10 m (33 feet).

Remote Transmitter Lock/Unlock Control - Unlock
The remote transmitter feature functions independently of key position, vehicle speed, or transmission position. The remote transmitter feature provides a two-step process for unlocking the doors. The first press of the UNLOCK button requests the vehicle security module to unlock the driver door. Another unlock request, within three seconds of the first requests all doors unlock.

Remote Transmitter Lock/Unlock Control - Lock
The remote transmitter feature requests that all the doors be locked when the LOCK button is pressed. With all doors closed the remote transmitter feature will request one flash of the parking lamps. If any door is ajar, no flash occurs, indicating the doors are locked, but one or more doors are ajar. As soon as all doors are closed, the vehicle will provide the one flash of the parking lamps. If two presses of the lock button are received within three seconds, the horn chirps once and the parking lamps flash twice to indicate that all the doors are closed and locked. If any door is ajar when the second lock request is received within three seconds of the first, the remote transmitter feature requests the horn chirp twice without flashing the parking lamps to indicate it locked all the doors but one or more doors are ajar. When the key is in the ON or START position, no parking lamp flashes or horn chirp confirmations occur.

Panic Alarm
The panic alarm feature controls activation of the panic alarm, providing audible and visual alarms which are evident from the exterior of the vehicle. The panic alarm feature requests that the parking lamps are flashed and the horn sounds until deactivation. These occur simultaneously. Activation of the panic alarm is accomplished by pressing the PANIC button on a remote transmitter whenever the key is in the OFF or ACC position. At all other times this feature is disabled. Deactivation of an active PANIC alarm is accomplished by: 1) a second press of the remote transmitter PANIC button, 2) the key is switched from the OFF or ACC position or 3) a period of 2.75 minutes has elapsed since the initial activation.
