STARTER MOTOR







Removal and Installation

WARNING: When carrying out maintenance on the starting system be aware that the heavy gauge leads are connected directly to the battery. Make sure the protective caps are in place when maintenance is completed.

1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist.
2. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
3. Remove the ground strap nut and position the ground strap aside.
- To install, tighten to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft).

4. Remove the starter motor solenoid terminal cover.
5. Remove the starter solenoid battery cable nut and position the starter solenoid battery cable aside.
- To install, tighten to 12 Nm (9 lb-ft).

6. Remove the starter solenoid wire nut and position the starter solenoid wire aside.
- To install, tighten to 6 Nm (53 lb-in).

7. Remove the 2 starter motor stud bolts, bolt and the starter motor.
- Install the starter motor upper bolt and lower stud bolts hand-tight. Tighten the upper bolt to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft), followed by the lower stud bolts to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft).

8. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
