POWER WINDOW GLOBAL OPEN FEATURE - TURNING FEATURE OFF
LINCOLN:
2007-2009 MKX
ISSUE
Some 2007-2009 Lincoln MKX customers may perceive problems with the global open system which may include: system operates erratically, false operation, both front windows and roof opening panel (if equipped) opens intermittently. When normal diagnostics do not identify a concern with the operation of the system, customers may request to have the global open feature disabled.
This information is provided so customers who request the change may have the function turned off at their expense.
ACTION
Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
NOTE
THIS PROCEDURE IS INTENDED TO HELP IDENTIFY AND DIAGNOSE CERTAIN CUSTOMER
COMPLAINTS WITH THE GLOBAL OPEN SYSTEM FUNCTION. THIS PROCEDURE SHOULD NOT BE USED AS A SUBSTITUTE BUT RATHER AS A ENHANCEMENT TO THE WORKSHOP MANUAL (WSM). CORRECT PIN POINT TESTS IN THE WSM SHOULD BE PERFORMED BEFORE USING THIS PROCEDURE.
NOTE
CHECK BASIC GLOBAL OPEN SYSTEM OPERATIONS OR DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES, BEFORE ATTEMPTING TO DIAGNOSE INTERMITTENT GLOBAL OPEN SYSTEM CONCERNS. IF CONCERNS ARE DISCOVERED WITH BASIC GLOBAL OPERATION, REPAIRS MUST BE MADE TO RESTORE THE BASIC SYSTEM BEFORE ATTEMPTING TO EVALUATE THE GLOBAL OPEN SYSTEM.
NOTE
THIS PUBLICATION IS FOR THOSE CUSTOMERS THAT WISH TO HAVE THE FEATURE TURNED OFF AT THEIR EXPENSE.
NOTE
THIS PUBLICATION IS FOR INFORMATION PURPOSES ONLY AND IT IS NOT WARRANTABLE UNDER THE PROVISION OF BASIC MANUFACTURER AND/OR BUMPER TO BUMPER COVERAGE.
Principles Of Operation:
A global open request may be received from either the set / reset switch in the driver's door key cylinder or via the integrated keyhead transmitter (IKT) unlock button, when either is held in the unlock position for more than 2 seconds. Once the signal is received from the IKT, the Smart Junction Box (SJB) located in the left hand (LH) A pillar sends a signal on the global open circuit, to open both front door window motors and the roof opening panel motor (if equipped). Once an activation via the set I reset switch is initiated, the windows will open as long as the key remains in the unlock position.
1. MKX not equipped with a global close feature.
2. If the accessory delay relay is active, the global open feature will not operate.
Global Open Feature Activation Using The Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) Or IKT Transmitter:
Refer to the correct model year Owners Guide under the Locks and Security section.
The following may be examples of customer concerns with the global open system:
1. System Operates Erratically - Some customers may indicate the system operates intermittently, and perceive a false operation.
2. System Operates Erratically - Both Front windows open intermittently.
3. System Operates Erratically - Both Front windows and roof opening panel (if equipped) open intermittently.
4. System Operates correctly - Customers may have the featured turned off.
Visual Checks:
^ Before attempting to diagnose the global open feature, be sure that the driver is not inadvertently pressing and releasing the IKT transmitter unlock button for more than two seconds. Duplicate the condition with the customer (if applicable).
^ Make certain no dirt, ink or metal objects are covering or touching the RKE or IKT transmitter pad or unlock button. Remove or clean any dirt, ink, or metal objects covering or blocking the RKE or IKT transmitter buttons before proceeding.
^ Check for any added on components spliced to the electrical parts of the SJB, windows or roof opening panel, which may prevent proper function of the global open feature.
^ Check for the correct voltage of the RKE or IKT transmitter batteries; refer to WSM section 501-14.
NOTE
MOST OF THE REPORTED ISSUES WITH GLOBAL OPEN SYSTEM FEATURE HAVE BEEN ATTRIBUTED TO INADVERTENTLY PRESSING THE RKE OR IKT TRANSMITTER UNLOCK BUTTON FOR MORE THAN TWO SECONDS, DURING NORMAL USE. THIS MAY BE PERCEIVED AS AN INCORRECT FUNCTION OF THE GLOBAL SYSTEM.
Service Tips:
1. Does the global open function operate with normal RKE or IKT command?
a. No - Diagnose the global open function using normal WSM, Section 501-11. Then proceed to Step 2.
b. Yes - Proceed to Step 2.
2. Does the customer wish to have the feature turned off after explaining the operation details?
a. No - No further diagnosis is needed, refer the customer to the Owners Guide, and return the vehicle to the customer.
b. Yes - Check the Smart Power Distribution Junction Box (SPDJB) software part number via the vehicle data communication link (DCL) connector and Integrated Diagnostic System (IDS) scan tool. Check under Log Viewer for the GEM/SJB_FILENAME software part number.
(1) If SPDJB software part number is 7L1T-14C184-AH or newer version, proceed to step 3.
(2) If SPDJB software part number is earlier version than 7L1T-14C184-AH proceed to Step 4.
3. For units with SPDJB software part number 7L1T-14C184-AH or newer version, the feature can be disabled without any parts replacement.
Use the IDS scan tool to disable the feature.
Follow the IDS steps below:
a. ID the vehicle.
b. Select Module Programming.
c. Select Programmable Parameters.
d. Select Power Door Locks.
e. Select Global Open.
f. Select Disable.
4. For SPDJB with a earlier software version than 7L1T-14C184-AH, the disable feature can be achieved by replacing the SPDJB to the latest level following the WSM, Section 419-10, and use the IDS to disable the feature once module replacement and configuration is complete. Use the following steps in IDS screens to disable the feature, after SJB replacement.
a. ID the vehicle.
b. Select Module Programming.
c. Select Programmable Module Installation (GEM).
d. Follow screen instructions to install new GEM.
e. After the new GEM has successfully been installed, turn off the feature using a Programmable Parameter.
f. Select Programmable Parameters.
g. Select Power Door Locks.
h. Select Global Open.
i. Select Disable.
