EXTERIOR TRIM - LOOSE REVERSE LAMP AT
LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT

ISSUE
Some 2006 Zephyr and 2007-2008 MKZ vehicles may exhibit a loose lens appearance at the reverse lamp assembly and the luggage compartment lid. This may be due to inadequate or loose sealing adhesive between the reverse lamp assembly lens and the luggage compartment lid.
ACTION
Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
CAUTION
TECHNICIANS SHOULD WEAR THE APPROPRIATE EYE, AND HAND PROTECTION WHILE PERFORMING THESE REPAIR PROCEDURES. ADHESIVES AND CLEANERS USED IN THESE PROCEDURES SHOULD BE USED IN A WELL-VENTILATED AREA.
NOTE
RIGHT REAR REVERSE LAMP IS SHOWN, LEFT REAR REVERSE LAMP IS SIMILAR.
1. With the luggage compartment lid closed. Inspect the reverse lamp assemblies at the upper outer corners for the adhesive being loose. (Figure 1)
2. If the adhesive at the corner of either reverse lamp is loose, proceed to Step 3. If the reverse lamp adhesive is not loose at the deck lid, do not continue with this TSB. Refer to normal repairs in Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 417-01.
3. Remove the affected reverse lamp assembly refer to WSM, Section 417-01. (Figure 2)
4. Place the reverse lamp on a soft padded sur[ace, to prevent lens damage.
5. Using a wood or plastic scraper and Motorcraft(R) Isopropanol Cleaning Kit or equivalent and remove the double sided tape from the back side of the reverse lamp corner and scrape off all the left over adhesive. (Figure 3)
NOTE
ALLOW THE ISOPROPYL ALCOHOL TO DRY FOR ONE MINUTE.
NOTE
IT IS CRITICAL THAT THE LENS SURFACE IS COMPLETELY CLEAN FROM THE ENTIRE OLD ADHESIVE.
6. Apply 3M(TM) Automotive Adhesion Promoter (obtain locally) to the sur[ace and spread evenly. (Figure 4)
7. Wipe the sur[ace of the deck lid with a Motorcraft� Isopropanol Kit wipe or equivalent.
8. Using a pair of scissors and 3MTMAutomotive Attachment Tape (obtain locally), cut and make a 2-1/2" (63.5 mm) by 2-1/2" (63.5 mm) by 2-1/2" (63.5 mm) triangle.
9. Remove the protective backing from both sides of the tape and apply it to the reverse lamp lens assembly corner (Figure 5)
NOTE
THE BONDING SURFACES MUST BE CLEAN TO ACHIEVE A GOOD BOND. AVOID TOUCHING THE ADHESIVE TO KEEP IT CLEAN
10. Install the reverse lamp assembly, refer for WSM, Section 417-01.
NOTE
PRIOR TO TORQUING THE LAMP ASSEMBLY, MAKE SURE TO APPLY EVEN PRESSURE TO THE CORNER OF THE REVERSE LAMP FOR THREE MINUTES.
