Pinpoint Test I: Cannot Program The MyKey(TM) Feature

Normal Operation

When the MyKey(TM) is used to operate the vehicle, the feature restricts several of the vehicle functions in order to promote good driving practices for the MyKey(TM) driver. Chimes sound and the audio system mutes if the safety belt is unbuckled. If the vehicle is low on fuel, chimes sound. Specific driver assistant functions are not allowed to be turned off, if configured by the MyKey(TM) feature. The audio volume can be configured to a limited value. Vehicle speed can be limited and chimes can be configured to sound when specific speeds are attained. The control functions for the MyKey(TM) feature are contained in the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC). The IPC initiates the key interrogation sequence of the MyKey(TM) when the ignition is turned to RUN or the engine is started.

If the vehicle is started using the push button start, and either a MyKey(TM) menu does not appear in the message center and/or the key cannot be programmed as a MyKey(TM) with restricted status, it may be due to one of the possible causes listed below.

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:

- Only one admin key left
- MyKey(TM) restricted key is in the backup transceiver slot
- IPC

PINPOINT TEST I: CANNOT PROGRAM THE MYKEY(TM) FEATURE

-------------------------------------------------
I1 DETERMINE THE STATUS OF THE KEY IN QUESTION

NOTE: Make sure there is only one IA key inside the vehicle. It does not have to be in the backup transceiver slot.

- Ignition ON.
- Observe the message center.
- Does the message center display "MYKEY ACTIVE, DRIVE SAFELY"?

Yes
The MyKey(TM) restricted key is already programmed and the key inside the vehicle is a MyKey(TM) restricted key. REFER to MyKey(TM) Programming Mykey if it is desired to configure or disable the MyKey(TM) Feature.

If the concern is that the MyKey(TM) restricted key cannot be configured or disabled, GO to Pinpoint Test J. Pinpoint Test J: Cannot Configure/Disable The MyKey(TM) Feature

No
The key in inside the vehicle is a MyKey(TM) restricted key. GO to I2.

-------------------------------------------------
I2 REVIEW THE MESSAGE CENTER INFORMATION TO DETERMINE THE NUMBER OF ADMIN KEYS

- Using the admin key, (the admin key must be inside the vehicle but does not have to be in the backup transceiver slot), press the SETUP button on the message center control buttons until SYSTEM CHECK is displayed.
- Press RESET to review the message center information to determine how many admin keys are programmed into the IPC.
- Does the IPC message center indicate there are 2 or more admin keys programmed into the IPC?

Yes
INSTALL a new IPC. REFER to Instrument Panel, Gauges and Warning Indicators. TEST the system for normal operation.

No
There must always be at least one admin key. The IPC does not allow the last admin key to be programmed into a MyKey(TM) restricted key. The concern is product characteristic. RELEASE the vehicle to the customer and explain the vehicle operating characteristics.
