Using Two Programmed Keys
Key Programming Using Two Programmed Keys - Intelligent Access (IA)
NOTE: This procedure works only if 2 or more programmed ignition keys are present. If 2 programmed Intelligent Access (IA) keys are not available, refer to Key Programming Using Diagnostic Equipment - Intelligent Access (IA) Using Diagnostic Equipment.
NOTE: The Remote Function Actuator (RFA) module PID SPAREKEY must be enabled for this procedure to operate. If this PID is not enabled, refer to Key Programming Switch State Control - Intelligent Access (IA) Switch State Control.
NOTE: A maximum of 4 IA keys can be programmed to an IA vehicle. If an attempt to program more than 4 IA keys occur, the additional IA keys cannot operate in any way and the message center displays MAX # OF KEYS LEARNED.
NOTE: If additional keys are to be programmed, and the remaining keys are with the customer, or are not available, instruct the customer to refer to the Owner's Literature for instructions on programming the remaining keys. In this case, the PID SPAREKEY must be enabled.
NOTE: All doors must be closed and must remain closed for the duration of this procedure or the programming procedure ends.
NOTE: If the steps are not carried out as outlined, the programming procedure ends. The procedure needs to be repeated.
1. NOTE: Make sure the ignition is in the OFF mode and that there are 2 programmed IA keys inside the passenger compartment.
Insert an unprogrammed IA key in the backup transceiver slot in the center console.
2. Press the driver or passenger door lock control switch to the unlock position 3 times.
3. Press and release the brake pedal one time.
4. Press the driver or passenger door lock control switch to the lock position 3 times.
5. NOTE: After this step is followed, the indicator on the start/stop button begins to rapidly flash, indicating that programming mode has been entered and that 2 programmed IA keys have been detected in the vehicle.
Press and release the brake pedal one time.
6. NOTE: If 4 IA keys have already been programmed to the vehicle, no more IA keys can be programmed and the message MAX # OF KEYS LEARNED displays on the message center after completing this step.
Within one minute, press the start/stop button to program the new key. A message displays on the message center indicating the new IA key has been programmed.
7. Remove the newly programmed IA key from the backup transceiver slot and press either the LOCK or the UNLOCK button on the IA key in order to exit the key programming mode.
8. Verify the operation of the new key by pressing the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons on the IA key, then place the new key inside the passenger compartment and start the vehicle with the new key. Make sure the original keys are outside of the vehicle when verifying the new key operation.
9. If it is desired to program an additional key (only up to 4 keys total can be programmed into the RFA module), repeat Steps 1 - 8 for the additional key that needs to be programmed.
