Using Diagnostic Equipment
Key Programming Using Diagnostic Equipment - Intelligent Access (IA)
NOTE: This procedure is used when a customer requests keys programmed into the system and does not have 2 programmed Intelligent Access (IA) keys available. This procedure is also useful when a programmed IA key(s) is lost, and it is desired to erase key code(s) from the Passive Anti-Theft System (PATS) memory.
NOTE: This procedure erases all programmed IA keys from the vehicle memory and the vehicle cannot start until 2 keys are programmed to the vehicle. This procedure also erases the IA Transmitter Identification Codes (TICs) from the Remote Function Actuator (RFA) module, preventing the erased IA keys from operating the Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) functions on the vehicle. Two IA keys must be available to carry out this procedure.
NOTE: While programmed keys are not required for this procedure, a scan tool session must be established in order to use Integrated Diagnostic System (IDS) key programming. Use an existing programmed key to establish a scan tool session. If no programmed keys are available, refer to Inspection and Verification in Information Bus to establish a scan tool session without PCM power (or in ignition OFF). Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview
1. NOTE: The ignition mode must stay in the OFF position for the duration of this procedure.
From the scan tool, ENTER SECURITY ACCESS. For additional information, refer to Anti-Theft Security Access - Intelligent Access (IA) Anti-Theft Security Access.
2. From the scan tool menu select: "Ignition Key Code Erase". Follow the IDS on-screen instructions until the process has been completed and the PATS Functions screen is available again.
3. NOTE: For this step to succeed, an IA key must be in the backup transceiver slot.
From the scan tool menu select: "Program additional ignition key". Follow the IDS on-screen instructions until the process has been completed and the PATS Functions screen is available again.
4. Remove the first IA key from the backup transceiver slot and verify the IA key has been programmed by pressing the lock and unlock buttons. At this time, the vehicle cannot be started due to only one IA key being programmed to the vehicle.
5. Place the second IA key in the backup transceiver slot.
6. From the scan tool menu select: "Program additional ignition key". Follow the IDS on-screen instructions until the process has been completed and the PATS Functions screen is available again.
7. Remove the second IA key from the backup transceiver slot and verify the IA key has been programmed by pressing the lock and unlock buttons.
8. Disconnect the scan tool.
9. The vehicle should now start with both IA keys and the RKE transmitter portion of the IA keys should function.
10. Verify the operation of each key by placing each key inside the passenger compartment and start the vehicle with the new key(s). Make sure the rest of the keys are out of the vehicle when verifying each key operation.
11. If it is desired to program additional key(s) at a later time (only up to 4 IA keys total can be programmed into the RFA module), refer to Key Programming Using Two Programmed Keys - Intelligent Access (IA) Using Two Programmed Keys for each additional key that needs to be programmed.
If the remaining keys are with the customer and are not available with the vehicle, instruct the customer to refer to the Owner's Literature for instructions on programming the remaining keys. In this case, make sure the RFA module PID SPAREKEY has been enabled by viewing the PID with the scan tool. This switch is set to ENABLE when the vehicle is built.
